Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Redesign Reportedly Spotted In Cinema
Earlier this month, a leaker shared what was allegedly the first look at the overhauled design of Sonic The Hedgehog in the upcoming live-action movie. This came, as I'm sure you know, following the swift and merciless backlash that the original live-action Sonic faced when the first trailer dropped in Spring, forcing Paramount Pictures and SEGA to delay the film and vow to re-work the blue speedster's look.
Just weeks after that initial (and completely unverified) "first look" at the redesign was shared by Twitter user @BestInTheGalaxy, who claimed to have received them from a 'friend at Paramount', we now have a second set of images that, while still unverified, do seem to at least match up to the images shared by @BestInTheGalaxy.
This second leak appears to be of a promotional standee in a cinema, and was shared by another Twitter user by the name of @pablothinghouse - another user with no prior history of leaking. Check it out for yourself below, along with the original leak to see how the two redesigns match up.
at this point its going to spread like wildfire, i posted the image to the public first and i didn't take a photo. pic.twitter.com/U1OHewhdp5- bleh bleh bleh (@pablothinghouse) October 27, 2019
There's every chance that someone could have simply taken the original leak and used a bit of a Photoshop trickery to make it appear in a more believable setting, of course, but that seems like an awful lot of trouble to go for very little reward.
It's also worth noting that . @pablothinghouse originally took down the post before re-uploading, leaving another user (@JoskiLani) to share the image in the interim. I wasn't entirely convinced back when the first leak surfaced, and I'm still not 100 percent certain we should take this at face value... but I'm starting to think this might just be legit.
Assuming we can believe that these images are the real-deal, it looks like Paramount pulled itself together and produced a version of Sonic that actually resembles the video game character, and not the sleep paralysis demon that I see at the foot of my bed after I've eaten too much cheese.
The weird proportions of the original design seem to have been fixed, those realistic long fingers have been replaced by the gloves (as it should be), and the new eyes help to make the blue blur look more like a live-action version of a video game character and less like a haunted sex doll for criminals.
Sonic The Hedgehog is currently slated to arrive in cinemas on February 14 next year, so we'll likely see a new trailer soon.
