Viewers have been left ‘traumatised’ by Netflix’s new true crime documentary series. Watch the trailer below:

The four-part true crime series takes viewers inside a polyamorous religious cult known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS).

Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey includes harrowing accounts from women indoctrinated by the cult’s leader, Warren Jeffs, who were subjected to forced marriage and pregnancy.

After watching the series, one person wrote on Twitter: “Just watched Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey. I’m sick, this was so traumatising to watch.”

Netflix’s new documentary focuses on Jeffs, who was called a ‘prophet’ by FLDS followers.

According to the streaming giant, Jeffs had 78 wives, 24 of whom were underage.

In 2011, Jeffs was convicted on two counts of child sexual assault.

The FLDS split from the Mormon church in the 1930s and its members continued to practise polygamy.

Mainly run out of Hildale and Colorado City, the FLDS imposed strict rules upon female cult members.

Not only did women have to dress a certain way, but they had to pray on the hour, every hour, and the message 'pray and obey' was even scrawled onto buildings.

Should a woman refuse marriage, she would be kicked out of the cult without any resources (like money) and zero support from other members.

Jeffs’ FLDS ranch was located in West Texas and was raided in 2008, resulting in 12 men being charged with child abuse.

In the US, the FLDS is actually classified as a hate group due to Jeffs’ racist views.

While Jeffs was in charge of the FLDS, reports of child brides as young as 12 being raped and abused began to emerge.

After watching Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, viewers rushed to Twitter to express their shock at what they’d just witnessed.

One person wrote: “This new documentary Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey on Netflix is insane. I’ve said it before and I'll say it again; religion is a cult and the root of all evil."

A second added: “I'm 20 minutes into the Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey documentary and I feel ill, these men deserve hell," while a third echoed: “This new Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey doc on Netflix is disturbing as hell.”

A fourth social media user tweeted: “Watching Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey on Netflix. So disgusting, abusing kids in the name of god.”

“After watching the first episode of Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey I’m physically sick,” said a fifth.
