Passenger says one word is 'banned' on cruise ships that he found out by accidentally saying it

I mean, surely this one's a given

There are certain things you just don’t say in certain situations. Like the B-word in an airport or ‘Macbeth’ in a theatre and even ‘I told you so’ when your mate is left heartbroken by a break-up. Even if it seems innocent to say it, you just don’t.

And the same applies on cruise ships it seems, as a passenger says there’s a word that’s ‘banned’ on board. But unfortunately for him, he found out the hard way when he accidentally said it.

Marc Sebastian was on Royal Caribbean’s nine-month cruise last year for the South America-Antarctica leg, documenting much of his travels on TikTok.

He left viewers ‘feeling sick’ with the inside of his cabin but caused a much worse feeling on board when he uttered the ‘banned’ word.

So, it sees that while you’re out on the waters enjoying a cruise, you should never talk about the Titanic.

I mean, come on.

It’s probably fairly obvious not to talk about the notorious ship sinking while you’re also sat on a big ship.

But Sebastian seemed baffled that it’s an absolute no-go.

“Who knew that? I didn't,” he said of the unwritten rule in a clip.

“I brought up to an entire room of people having lunch that our ship is only 100 feet longer than the Titanic.”

He said that just the mention of the historic ship caused people’s jaws to drop.

“When I tell you that, utensils dropped okay. Waiters gasped dead silent,” he added.

But his mate eventually leant across the table to drop the hint that it was probably time to jump ship when it came to conversation starters.

The TikToker mentioned that the cruise didn’t come ‘with a f***ing handbook’, and while that’s fair enough, we can see why chatting about the Titanic might make people a little uncomfortable.

But people in the comments said their fascination would be too strong to not talk about it while onboard a ship.

One said: “I'm sorry if I'm going on a boat, I'm talking about Titanic and OceanGate.”

As a second added: “Not being able to talk about the Titanic would definitely ruin the experience for me.”

While a third quipped: “Is the Titanic thing for cruises the same as like Macbeth for theatre?”

And if you thought the quirks of the ship couldn’t get any weirder, well, you were wrong.

Sebastian revealed that ships tend to have ‘godmothers’ - with the particular one he was on being Whoopi Goldberg… which is kind of iconic.
