Man's life becomes 'horror movie' after finding hidden door in basement

When you find a mysterious door in the basement of your new home, what do you do?

A man’s life took a spooky turn after he discovered a hidden door in his basement.

In what sounds like the plot to a horror film, with a scary door, a new home and an unanswered question surrounding the previous owners, the man explained how he recently moved to a new property where he came across a ‘hidden basement room’.

Naturally, the man shared his discovery on social media and posted a picture of the rather unsettling door on Reddit.

The bare walls, the dilapidated wooden doors and what looks like a tipped-over filing cabinet will make even the most brave horror fans feel alarmed.

Alongside the picture, the man wrote: “Previous owner of new house blocked this hidden basement room off with a shelf (door does not lead outside).”

The whole situation leads us to question why the previous owner failed to mention that there was a creepy door in the house. Plus, if the door doesn’t lead outside, what is on the other side?

It’s times like this when you need Toni Collette or Vera Farmiga to open the door for you.

As you may expect, the man was quickly inundated with requests to open the door and ‘solve the mystery’ but he put this idea to bed, claiming that he had seen enough horror movies to know better than to open a rather sinister looking door.

Reddit users are begging the man to open the door, like Patrick Wilson here in The Conjuring 2.

And if the appearance of the door wasn’t enough to warn the man against venturing to the other side, his dogs apparently won’t go near the door either and in horror films they always seem to have a sixth sense about paranormal situations.

“OPEN IT OPEN IT OPEN IT OPEN IT. Well, I guess I really am no better than a horror movie victim,” one Reddit user responded to the thread.

The man replied: “And likewise, horror movies have taught me that the questions posed are always scarier and more interesting than any answer I could get out of it so that mf is stayin [sic] closed.

“Also, my dogs won’t go near the door so I’m doubly not opening it.”

Doors are common in horror movies, like this one in The Shining.

Someone else wrote: “It's probably fine.”

While a brave Reddit user replied: “What's your address? I'll open it!”

Another enthusiastic commenter said: “This is absolute torture. How do you sleep at night knowing there's a door in your house that lead to the unknown? Round up a posse, live stream and open that s**t!”

And someone else wrote: "What if a tonne of us from the internet come to open it for you. If horror movies have taught me anything is that we all can't die and crowds are usually unharmed."

What would you do?!
