A woman who quit smoking and took up vaping in order to be healthier was ‘left on her dead bed’ after a year.
Loyda Cordero Faliero was ‘proud’ of her move to give up the ciggies after two decades, as she began vaping ‘24/7’.
The 39-year-old had then been on the vapes for ‘little over a year’ when she was rushed to hospital at the start of March. The New Yorker choked on a sip of a drink as her oesophagus ‘closed up’ and doctors diagnosed her with pulmonary bullae (large air space) in her lungs.

They also found Loyda had a collapsed lung as she was told it was a result of build-up fluid from vaping.

“My oesophagus is out of place to where the pulmonary bullae sac is putting pressure onto that and if that ruptures, it could cause a bleed on the brain or internal bleeding which could kill me instantly,” the American woman explained.
Loyda now has to sleep sat up as she could apparently ‘choke to death’ on her own spit or ‘suffocate and die’.
Describing it as a ‘life or death situation’, she was forced to quit vaping in order to be eligible for surgery to remove the sacs from her lungs. The mum-of-two said she was warned that if she didn’t, she might not still be here in five years’ time.

Recovering in hospital, she says she had been ‘so proud’ of herself for quitting cigarettes.

“It's made me very emotional. I quit something thinking that it was going to be healthier but unfortunately it destroyed me more than it benefited me,” Loyda said.
Having previously brushed off breathlessness, nausea, dizziness and pain as ‘poor overall health’, doctors have now ordered her to stop all physical activity.
“Basically I'm on my deathbed and it's a ticking time bomb waiting to go off,” she added.

Doctors apparently said that even lifting a gallon of milk is ‘overdoing it’.

“I can't even cook dinner or stand up to do dishes because by the time I'm done with dishes I'm literally crying in pain and gasping for air,” Loyda explained
“It really has taken over my life more than I ever thought it would.”
Having quit vaping for the surgery, she also can’t ‘go back to smoking’ as it is ‘just going to happen’ to her again.
“The doctors said that if I carried on vaping then within the next five years I would end up on life support and I wouldn't make it because of how badly this damaged my lungs and how badly the liquid has built up in my lungs,” she said.
In the US, vaping regulations differ to the UK with higher nicotine levels allowed.
