Woman Shares How To Make A 'Naked Egg' In Weird TikTok Video

Sure, whatever keeps the kids entertained

A science teacher has shared the secrets behind how to produce a bouncy 'naked' egg in a fairly bizarre TikTok video.

Of course, exactly why you'd want to create a bouncy see-through egg is up for debate, but why on earth not, right?

We've all got a bit of time on our hands at the minute, and it seems fairly simple to do.

In short, all you have to do is submerge the egg in white vinegar and then leave it there for three days. Eventually, the acidic vinegar will dissolve away the shell of the egg and leave you with a hardened and incredibly strange bouncy egg.

As she warns though, don't eat it. It might be disgusting.

The waiting process...

However, anyone who has eaten a pickled egg at the pub might differ in opinion there, as they are absolutely delicious.

Incidentally, if you want to make a pickled egg, just do the same thing but boil the eggs first and leave them in the pickling solution - which can contain pretty much anything you want - for much longer than the three days suggested here.

The original video was shared by US science teacher Mrs Nancy Bullard, who operates on TikTok under the name @mrs.b.tv.

She explained: "A naked egg!

"Cover an egg in vinegar and wait for three days.

"The acid in the vinegar reacts to the calcium carbonate in the eggshell and creates carbon dioxide gas."

Leave the vinegar to do it's work for a few days.

"After three days, the egg will be completely naked.

"You can squeeze it, bounce it, taste it if you want, but it's gonna be disgusting.

"And that's how you make a naked egg."

Righto, that seems simple enough.

It still fails to answer the question of why, though.

Apparently, this isn't a new development for quite a few people. Many of the 4,390 people who have commented on the video so far reported having tried this particular experiment before.

One said: "I remember doing this in middle school!"

Another said: "It works! I tried a long time ago."

Then, you'll have your very own naked egg.

A third wrote: "I wish you [were] my science teacher when I was still at school. I've learned more from your TikToks than I ever did in five years of secondary school lessons."

For an added bonus to this science experiment, how about drawing on the sides of the egg with a wax crayon?

That will mean the wax will protect the egg underneath and leave you with a cool pattern on your naked egg when the shell has gone.

Again, why you'd want to do this is unclear, but it'll pass an afternoon.
