Here's the reason why people have sold their cars and quit their jobs in anticipation for the so-called end of the world.
An age-old prophecy has recently resurfaced online, with multiple people believing that it is set to come true today (23 September).
The Christian prophecy is no joke, with many figures in the community taking to social media to preach the message written in the Bible.
South African Pastor Joshua Mhlakela brought mass attention to the religious claims, claiming that God will be coming to 'rescue the Christians out of the world' on both 23 and 24 September this year.

It's called 'the Rapture' and he spoke on YouTube about how this would be the fateful date for followers of Christ, coinciding with Rosh Hashanah, or the Feast of Trumpets.
Many have been left puzzled at what the prophecy really is, and why people have thought quitting their jobs and selling their belongings is the best thing to do at the moment.

What will happen during the Rapture?
Well, everything that is set to happen during 'the Rapture' has been outlined by the preacher himself, as he spoke about Rosh Hashanah, which would leave the world 'unrecognisable' after God's judgement.

Speaking to Innocent & Millicent Cent on YouTube, he said: “The rapture is upon us, whether you are ready or not. I saw Jesus sitting on his throne, and I could hear him very loud and clear saying, ‘I am coming soon.’”
Apparently, the son of God is set to make his 'grand return' today, with news spreading quickly on social media, as many people have expectedly got carried away with the prophecy.
What does the Bible say?
It is stated in Thessalonians 4:13-17: "For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
"After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever."

This is the first of two phases indicating the second coming of Christ, according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, with believers said to be resurrected and given eternal bodies, before rising into heaven, as it is said in 1 John 3:2: “We know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
Apparently, non-believers will not notice this until they clock on to the depleted world population, while Jesus returns to Earth to defeat his enemies before ruling over Earth for the millennium 'with His saints, the church'.

How are people reacting to the Rapture?
One TikToker named Tilahun Desalegn was convinced and even sold his five-year-old car, saying: “She’s got to go. I won’t need her beyond September. I’m going home, to where my father in heaven is.”

Another user whose words have been questioned has claimed that she is expecting the Rapture to come today, claiming in a viral clip: "I've given away all my earthly possessions to the heathens that I know will not be coming with us, the chosen ones."
Known online as @alpharoyce_, she claimed in the viral video: "I've already transferred the deed to my house. I just need to give this car away."
Speaking about how material items will no longer matter, she claimed that 'it's not too late' for people to join her, though many believe that it's a bit of satire from the South African content creator, despite there being genuine believers.
Comedian Kevin Fredericks commented on the prophecy, pointing out: “They are selling their cars, clothes, some people are making post-rapture kits for the people who are left behind. What time zone is it happening in? Because the whole thing about the rapture that I was taught was that no man knows the date or the hour…
“There are 24 time zones on Earth, 38 if you include the ones that have half-hour times. No man knows how you all know,” he explained it.
