Woman asks for divorce just one day after wedding over cake prank

The husband broke one 'hard-and-fast' rule the bride had set for the wedding

After making it to what was supposed to have been the happiest day of her life, a woman revealed she didn't even get one day into the honeymoon period before asking for a divorce from her husband.

That has to be some kind of record, surely?

The bride opened up about her not-so-happy marriage in a letter to Slate's advice column, Dear Prudence, in which she explained that she got married just before Christmas in 2021, but planned to be single again by the end of January 2022.

Obviously that hadn't been her plan from the start, but she realised she just couldn't stay with the man she'd married after an unfortunate incident which took place on their wedding day.

First, though, let's rewind a bit.

The woman explained: "I never cared about getting married, but I wasn’t opposed to it. So when my boyfriend proposed in 2020, we decided to go for it.

"We each took on about half the responsibility for organising the wedding, but I think I was pretty reasonable about compromise when he really wanted something."

The bride indicated she was fairly good at being fair, but she had one 'hard-and-fast rule' for their big day: "He would not rub cake in my face at the reception."

It's unclear exactly why the woman didn't want to partake in this tradition - I'd do basically anything for some cake - but she'd obviously made up her mind.

She continued: "Being a reasonable man who knows me well, he didn’t."

Instead, he did something much more dramatic.

The bride said: "He grabbed me by the back of the head and shoved my head down into it. It was planned since the cake was DESTROYED, and he had a bunch of cupcakes as backup."

Devastated by the whole ordeal, the bride said she 'left' the wedding, and just one day later, she told her new husband they were 'done'.

"I am standing by that," she said but she was met with some pushback from her loved ones.

"EVERYONE has gotten together to tell me I should give him a second chance," she said. "That I am overreacting because of my issues (I am VERY claustrophobic after a car accident years ago, and I absolutely panicked at being shoved into a cake and held there).

"That I love him (even though right now I don’t feel that at all), he loves me, and that means not giving up at the first hurdle. I don’t want to, but everyone is so united and confident in their assurance I am making a terrible mistake that I wonder if they are right."

After reading the letter, Prudence responded to point out her friends and family are 'not the ones who have to wake up every day with a man whose behavior massively turns them off'.

"You are," they wrote. "So you only have to listen to yourself."

Prudence described the man's behaviour as a 'red flag about not respecting' the bride, adding: "Even if it wasn’t, the fact that you really didn’t like it is enough.

"Make a mental note about which of your loved ones don’t seem to value your happiness, and continue with your divorce."

Take it from this couple - if your partner doesn't want cake shoved in their face at your wedding, listen to them.
