1899: Release Date, Trailer, And Cast

1899 is one of Netflix’s most hotly anticipated upcoming TV series

1899 is one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming TV series. The period drama will be available on Netflix and follows the story of a group of immigrants who leave London on a steamship in search of a new life in New York City. However, whilst making its voyage across the Atlantic, the steamship encounters another migrant ship and the journey takes a dark turn. 

1899 is a German series but will include dialogue in a multitude of languages, including English and Cantonese, and will be accessible to speakers of many different dialects.

Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, creators of the German series Dark which ran for three seasons between 2017 and 2020, are behind the making of 1899. The first season of the show will have eight episodes, with the first entitled ‘The Ship’.

1899 Release Date

1899 will be released in late Autumn of this year, with some rumours indicating that Netflix are looking at November 24th as a potential release date.

It is unknown whether the eight episodes will all be released at once or if the instalments will become available on a weekly basis.

1899 Cast 

The series stars Emily Beecham, an English actress who featured alongside the likes of George Clooney and Jonah Hill in the Coen Brothers’ 2017 film Hail, Caesar!. In 2019 Beecham received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance in the film Little Joe.

1899 also features Aneurin Barnard, who has featured in films such as Dunkirk and Hunky Dory.

Show creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are reunited with German actor Andreas Pietschmann, who featured in Dark.

Polish actor Maciej Musiał also features in the series, as does Spanish actor Miguel Bernardeau and Belgian actor Jonas Bloquet.
