Mia Khalifa was at one time Pornhub's most viewed performers and also one of the highest earners on OnlyFans. So why did she quit porn? And what does she do now?
Born in Lebanon as Mia Callista in 1993, Mia Khalifa and her family fled to America during the height of the South Lebanon Conflict in 2001, at the age of eight.
She went to a private school in Beirut, where she learned to speak English. Khalifa was raised in a conservative Catholic household, but claims to no longer be a practising Catholic.
After moving to America, Khalifa went to high school in Maryland, attended a Military academy in Virginia, and then graduated from the University of Texas El Paso with an undergraduate degree in History.
During her student days, Khalifa earned money working as a bartender, model and a "briefcase girl" on a Spanish Deal or No Deal show.
Mia Khalifa in the porn industry
2014 was the year Mia Khalifa rose to fame in the porn industry. She first entered the world of porn with her then husband in early 2014, when the two posted several pornographic images on a NSFW Sub-Reddit.
In October that year, the video which shocked the Muslim world, led to her receiving death threats from ISIS, and caused her parents to disown her came out. It featured Khalifa in a threesome while wearing a Hijab.
Mia Khalifa's support for Palestine
Much like Bella Hadid, Mia Khalifa has used her large social following to voice her support for Palestine. On 17th May 2021 she tweeted: "Good morning. The only threat to democracy in the Middle East is Israel."
Khalifa also spoke out about the Indian farmers' protests in February 2021, tweeting: "What in the human rights violations is going on?! They cut the internet around New Delhi?! #FarmersProtest"
Why did Mia Khalifa quit porn?
Mia Khalifa's run-in with ISIS after the video of her in a threesome while wearing a Hijab is what led her to leaving the adult industry.
She said: "They [ISIS] photoshopped a picture of me being beheaded and threatened that that would happen to me.
"It does worry me but I try not to show it, because you can't show weakness.
"That's exactly what they're looking for.
"I really try and just make it look like it rolls off, but I'll admit, it gets to you after a while."
Where is Mia Khalifa now?
After a year-long break from social media, Khalifa returned to Instagram in 2016 and she had re-located to Texas in search of a fresh start.
In October 2017, Khalifa announced she would be co-hosting a daily sports talk show called Out of Bounds, but then quit two months later.
Speaking on the Lance Armstrong podcast, Forward, the ex-pornstar said: "I didn't want to be in LA. It was my dream job but I walked away when I realised I wouldn't watch my own show.
"I love Complex but they were understanding when I said I wanted to leave."

Mia Khalifa married her high school boyfriend in 2011, but they divorced in 2016.
Mia Khalifa net worth
In 2021, Mia Khalifa is estimated to be worth $3 million. A lot of this is generated from her social media accounts and her highly successful OnlyFans account.
Earlier this year, she donated $160,000 (£113,000) to charities from her OnlyFans proceeds.
