Where Was Netflix’s Stay Close Filmed?

Netflix has given us a first look at its new crime drama series, Stay Close, and eagle-eyed viewers around the UK think they've spotted filming for this series throughout the year. They're not wrong.

The gripping new eight-part thriller is based on Harlan Coben's 2012 novel of the same name and comes to Netflix on 31st December.

Stay Close will be the third Coben novel to be turned into a TV drama series for Netflix and the writers behind the other two - Safe and The Stranger - have come together again to work on this one.

The original books are set in America and true to the other Coben adaptations, Stay Close was moved to, and filmed in, the UK.

What is Stay Close about?

Starring Cush Jumbo, James Nesbitt, Richard Armitage, and Sarah Parish, Stay Close "questions how much you really know someone," Netflix teased. "Three people each conceal dark secrets that even those closest to them would never suspect."

"Megan, a working mother of three, has run away from a dangerous past. Ray, the once-promising documentary photographer, is now stuck in a dead-end job pandering to celebrity-obsessed rich kids. And Broome, a detective, is unable to let go of a missing person's cold case.

"Lorraine, an old friend from Megan's past, delivers some shocking news which will impact on all three characters.

"As the past comes back to haunt them it threatens to ruin their lives and the lives of those around them."

Where was Stay Close filmed?

Stay Close was predominantly filmed in Manchester and other locations across the North West of England.

Back in April, local newspapers reported sightings of James Nesbitt and the rest of the cast in colourful going out clothes outside one of the city centre's nightclubs, Impossible Bar.

There were also some scenes shot in Didsbury, which is a suburban area south of Manchester city on the banks of the River Mersey.
