Ali Wong apparently had the best time working with Keanu Reeves for her Netflix project, because she managed to persuade the streaming service to pay for them to snog.

The actor and comedian, 40, is one of the most in demand stars at the moment thanks to her role in the hit comedy Beef as well as her roles on Love, Victor, Are You There, Chelsea? and Inside Amy Schumer.

It’s should therefore come as no surprise that the world’s biggest streaming service wanted to work with her on a project and it seems Wong had a very good reason to as well.

Ahead of the release of her 2019 rom-com Always Be My Maybe, Wong sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to chat about the film.

She starred alongside Fresh Off the Boat’s Randall Park, who co-wrote Always Be My Maybe alongside Wong, and Hollywood heartthrobs Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves.

Wong told the talk show host about all the fun she had making the movie and said she basically made it to get a chance to snog Kim and Reeves, which isn’t a bad reason to make a rom-com at all.

Wong plays celebrity chef Sasha Tran who falls in love with her childhood friend Marcus (Park).

“I kiss a lot of men,” she gushed. “It’s like, who wrote this movie, right? I kiss a lot of sexy men. I kiss Daniel Dae Kim. I kiss Keanu Reeves. I basically made Netflix spend all this money on a movie just so I could kiss Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves.”

The former Fresh Off the Boat writer shared her happiness after getting the John Wick star to be part of the film. Wong also said she was able to establish chemistry with both men because she had been with her husband Justin Hakuta for '10 years’ at the time.

She quipped: “I’ve been with the same dude for 10 years. I would have chemistry with a turtle at this point.”

The couple, who share two daughters, split up in 2022.

Beef is a new comedy-drama starring Wong and Steven Yeun as two strangers living in Los Angeles who become caught up in a drawn-out dispute after a brief road rage incident.

Wong joked she made the film to kiss Keanu Reeves and Daniel Dae Kim.

A synopsis from Netflix fan platform Tudum says: “Danny is a blue-collar worker struggling to find his footing, while Amy is a self-made woman with a picturesque family. Everyone has a bad day, but few let a car honk turn into a high-speed chase.

“Throughout the 10-episode series, Danny and Amy’s feud spirals into an obsession with revenge that not only consumes each of them, but also takes over the lives of their loved ones.”

It's certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and has zoomed up the Netflix trending chart since it dropped last Thursday (6 April).

Always Be My Maybe and Beef are available to stream on Netflix now.
