Boy George compares himself to Margaret Thatcher in I'm a Celeb announcement video

Boy George compares himself to Margaret Thatcher in I'm a Celeb announcement video

Boy George has said that he shares a quality with Margaret Thatcher in the lead up to his appearance on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here

Boy George has compared himself to former UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher in a video released before his stint in the jungle on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. You can hear from the whole new line-up in the video below.

The Culture Club singer is just one of a line-up of celebrities that are heading off to take part in the show, which is back in Australia for the first time in two years.

George, who is really called George Alan O’Dowd, also outlined the things he’s going to miss most during his time away, as well as revealing a novel concept for deciding if he’s going to like his fellow campers.

Joining him will be former England footballer Jill Scott, ex-England rugby union player Mike Tindall, radio DJ Chris Moyles, Love Island star Olivia Attwood, and a variety of soap stars and other celebs.

The whole thing gets underway this weekend, and we can expect that Boy George will be providing some of the controversy, one way or the other.

Incidentally, the comparison with Margaret Thatcher isn’t because he plans to nick all of the milk that the camp is allowed.

Here's the I'm a Celebrity class of 2022.

It's simply because he doesn’t sleep very much.

The Iron Lady – as she came to be known – famously only slept for a matter of hours each night, and it seems as if George might be a bit similar.

He said: “I am a bit like Margaret Thatcher – I don’t sleep a lot.

“I find sleep a bit of a hindrance because I can’t get things done when I am asleep.

“I do like to chant, and I will find a corner to do it in camp.”

Nice, a bit of chanting during the night might be exactly what some of the other campers want when they’re trying to have a kip.

Of course, this isn’t to say that George is a fan of Maggie.

In fact, he once recorded a song called ‘No Clause 28’ slamming Thatcher's Section 28, which effectively prohibited schoolchildren being taught about LGBTQ+ issues.

As for the food situation, George has already said that he won’t be eating any creepy crawlies as he’s a vegetarian.

To be fair, do they still need to be doing that anyway?

He continued: “I do fast a lot at home and weirdly I am nicer when I don’t eat!

“I am quite a good cook but I will never inflict what I make on other people.

“I can make some really disgusting things.

“Some people open my fridge and scream!

“That said, I do know I will miss my phone, espressos, goat’s cheese and feta cheese whilst I am away.”

George won't be eating any insects, but will judge others on their star signs.

As for his fellow contestants, they’ll be judged on what time of the year they were born, because George claims he’ll be making decisions based on star signs.

“I will be 1000% asking them what star sign they are,” George – who is a Gemini, if you care about this stuff – said.

“Star signs give you an idea of who people might be.

“But I am going to really try not to get wound up in camp.

“I like to think I am a positive person.”

You’ll be able to find out how all of this goes in the first episode, which airs on Sunday at 9pm as the celebrities enter their camp for the first time.
