Harry Potter star Rupert Grint is expecting his first child with his girlfriend Georgia Groome.

In a statement, a representative for the couple said: "Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are excited to announce they are expecting a baby and would please ask for privacy at this time."

Rupert, 31 - who played Ron Weasley in the movie franchise based on J.K. Rowling's books - and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging star Georgia, 28, have been together since 2011.

Last year the couple sparked marriage rumours when they were seen sporting what some suspected to be matching weddings rings, but a spokesperson denied they had married.

When he turned 30, however, Rupert had spoken about his hopes of starting a family. In an interview with The Guardian in 2018, he said: "Turning 30 felt strange.

"It just doesn't feel like I'm there yet and I don't know what the future holds. I'm just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters and see what happens.

"I'd like to settle down and have kids soon. If I had a son, would I call him Ron? It's quite a good name, but probably not. And Grint's a tough name to pair a one-syllable first name with."

It seems Rupert will introduce his child to the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter in years to come - but only up until the third film, at which point Georgia might have to take the reins. Why? Because he can't watch past Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

In an interview with the Radio Times, he said: "I think those early ones are OK. More time has passed. I can detach myself a bit more from that kid.

"I did see Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone not long ago, for the first time since the premiere, and I actually enjoyed looking back. But the more recent ones I definitely couldn't do."

When asked which would be the latest film he'd be willing to watch, he said: "I could probably go up to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."

Grint was just 10 when he landed the part of Ron alongside co-stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and the trio became overnight mega-stars.

But finding fame at such a young age wasn't all fun and games for Grint, who went on: "I struggle to remember life before it. I think I lost myself a little bit along the way. With the fame, you're almost being the character even when you're not in character.

"From the moment I got the part, my life completely changed. It was a weird time and it has taken me a long while to process. Just being invisible can still be difficult. Sometimes you just want to go to B&Q."

Welll, B&Q might be swapped for soft play centres soon enough. Congrats, guys.
