Hilary Duff's husband has waded in on the playground politics that resulted in Ashley Tisdale abandoning her 'toxic mom group'.

Matthew Koma has now put his two pence in the online drama, which has erupted in wake of the High School Musical star dishing the dirt on her fallout with her friends.

Tisdale - who adopted the surname French after getting hitched to her composer husband Christopher - penned an emotive essay explaining how she felt 'frozen out' by her former pals.

In an article for The Cut titled 'Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group', the actress told how she chose to sever ties with several people she had once been extremely close to.

"I thought I found my village," the 40-year-old said. "Instead, I was back in high school."

According to Tisdale, she was continuously 'left out' and 'excluded' by the other mothers who she built friendships with - but she didn't name and shame anyone.

"I could sense a growing distance between me and the other members of the group, who seemed to not even care that I wasn’t around much," the former Disney star said.

"When everyone else attended a birthday dinner together, I was met with excuses as to why I hadn’t been invited."

Eventually, Tisdale decided to take a step back from the group of mothers as the 'group dynamic stopped being healthy and positive' for her.

"Motherhood has enough challenges without having to wonder if the people around you are on your side," she wrote. "You deserve to go through motherhood with people who actually, you know, like you.

"And if you have to wonder if they do, here’s the hard-earned lesson I hope you’ll take to heart: It’s not the right group for you."

Despite not naming and shaming any of her friends who were involved, the Daily Mail reported that Tisdale had unfollowed the likes of Hilary Duff and Mandy Moore on social media - so online sleuths soon put two and two together.

The rumour mill obviously started running rampant, even though a representative for The Suite Life of Zack & Cody actress told TMZ her words were not directed at Duff, Moore, or Meghan Trainor, for that matter.

Tisdale was previously very chummy with these stars, so a lot of people thought her essay was written about this group of friends.

And, it seems that Duff's other half thinks the exact same thing too - as he appeared to swipe back at Tisdale with a scathing social media post.

Taking to Instagram, Matthew Koma - who shares three children with Lizzie McGuire star Duff - uploaded a snap showing his head photoshopped onto Tisdale's body.

He doctored the feature image used by The Cut for the actress' personal essay, but he wasn't done there.

Alongside the image, the singer-songwriter also added in a fictional headline which read: "When You're The Most Self Obsessed Tone Deaf Person On Earth, Other Moms Tend To Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers."

Koma's fake magazine cover also featured another heading that stated: "A Mom Group Tell All Through A Father's Eyes."

Rubbing even more salt into the wound, the dad then captioned the image: "Read my new interview with @TheCut."

People have been left quite divided by Duff's husband getting involved in the drama, as one social media user said: "Why is the husband responding to this, that feels kind of weird?"

Another wrote: "I love how messy everyone is."

A third added: "His response isn’t really beating the high school dynamics allegation."

A fourth chimed in saying: "Screaming. Crying. Throwing up. Celebrities are messy again!"

And a fifth said: "Love it when men stand up for their wives."
