Jenna Ortega shuts down the 'ridiculous' rumour that she’s dating Johnny Depp.

The Wednesday star has taken to Instagram to address the speculation and put an end to the false claims once and for all.

Ortega, who is 40 years younger than Depp, debunked the rumour which first came about when the two were falsely reportedly spotted together with theories emerging that Depp might be involved in Beetlejuice 2.

"This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh," the 20-year-old wrote. "I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone."

A representative for Depp has also dispelled the dating rumours as well as the speculation that he may have a role starring alongside Ortega in the upcoming fantasy comedy flick.

A statement from Depp’s representative read: "Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her."

It continued: "He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career."

Ortega has previously been very open with how social media trolls have affected her in a discussion with Elle Fanning for Variety’s Actors-on-Actors series.

She revealed: "Social media, what it does to anyone our age, it’s such a comparing game.

"It influences bandwagon mentality. It’s very manipulative."

Talking about the necessity of being careful with what she posts on social media, she added: "They see your vulnerability and twist it in a way that you don’t always expect."

Breaking down in tears, Ortega added: "It’s so strange. Sorry, I didn’t mean to do this. It’s such a hard thing to balance. Because how do you be honest without jeopardising your own health and safety? It’s very easy to feel almost out of control."

Beetlejuice 2, set to hit our screens in September of next year, is directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith.

The film is the long-awaited to Beetlejuice which first came out way back when in 1988.

It stars the likes of Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe alongside Ortega.

Ortega will play Winona Ryder's daughter in the sequel, which will also be the second time she's worked with Burton, who also directed Wednesday.

"It’s been quite an insane experience," she said of working with Burton on the beloved Netflix series.

"I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with an iconic director who just so happens to be one of the sweetest directors I’ve worked with, and also the most detail-oriented."
