Chris Hemsworth has shared more about his genetic link to Alzheimer's, three years after announcing it to the world.
The Marvel star discovered that he is genetically predisposed to develop Alzheimer's following a test he undertook during the National Geographic docuseries Limitless, where he was told he carried two copies of the APOE4 gene.
Hemsworth has remained fairly open about the discovery, as while he carries the gene, it doesn't mean that he has been formally diagnosed with the health condition. Instead, the Australian actor has at higher risk of developing it.
In a new documentary with National Geographic titled Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember, the 42-year-old goes on a road trip with his father, whose memory is fading as a result of early-stage Alzheimer's.

According to the NHS, Alzheimer's Disease is the most common cause of dementia in the UK, which is linked with a decline of brain functionality, affecting memory, thinking skills and mental ability.
Its exact cause is still not fully understood by specialists, though factors such as old age, family history, untreated depression and lifestyle factors associated with cardiovascular conditions are thought to increase your risk of developing Alzheimer's.
Hemsworth went on the road trip with his dad, Craig, to try and jog his memory, though he did also admit that he has fears over his own health in the future.
He admitted: “This has become a very prominent conversation in my world, because I also have two copies of the gene that puts me in a higher-risk category for Alzheimer's.

“But it's not a problem at this point, and it may never be. So I'm far more focused on my dad right now.”
The actor said that while he does have worries, it's all about living in the present, adding: “I feel like it’s too far off, hopefully.
“I'd rather just continue on with life.”

Hemsworth previously told Vanity Fair in April 2024 that he was 'p***ed off' by rumours about his acting career, especially after he 'felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and shared this'.

He said that the noise about him quitting wasn't true, adding: “No matter how much I said: ‘This is not a death sentence,’ the story became that I have dementia and I’m reconsidering life and retiring and so on.”
The actor originally decided to take some time away from the industry after being told the news, which came after bloodwork and a number of tests were carried out.
