Christina Applegate issues heartbreaking update on lifelong condition months after Emmys standing ovation

Christina Applegate issues heartbreaking update on lifelong condition months after Emmys standing ovation

She admits it took a lot for her to attend the awards ceremony

Christina Applegate has opened up about her health following her standing ovation at the 75th Emmy Awards earlier this year.

The award-winning actor, known recently for her role in Netflix's Dead To Me, has been candid about her health in recent years after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

She revealed her diagnosis on X (Twitter) back in 2021, writing: "It's been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition."

According to the NHS, MS affects the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement and balance. It is a lifelong condition that cannot be cured.

Applegate took to the stage alongside Emmys host Anthony Anderson to present the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy.

The entire audience took to their feet, with the 52-year-old joking that they were making fun of her MS by getting out of their seats so easily.

She said: "Thank you so much," before adding: "Oh my god, you're totally shaming me with disability by standing up. It's fine."

The actor later quipped: "We don't have to applaud every time I do something."

Now, in an exclusive interview on Good Morning America, Applegate has shared a heartbreaking update on her condition.

Speaking about the Emmys, she told host Robin Roberts: "I actually kind of blacked out. People said, 'oh you were so funny,' and I'm like, 'I don't even know what I said.'

"I don't know what I was doing, I got so freaked out that I didn't even know what was happening anymore."

She also admitted that she's 'living in hell,' but is grateful for the love she felt at the awards ceremony.

"I'm not out a lot so this is like a little difficult just for my system, but yeah of course the support is wonderful and I'm really grateful," she said.

Christina previously spoke about what her future might look like with Vanity Fair.

"This is a progressive disease. I don't know if I'm going to get worse. With the disease of MS, it's never a good day. You just have little sh***y days."

She continued: "There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted. Going down the stairs, carrying things - you can't do that anymore. It f***ing sucks."
