Elon Musk has made a bombshell promise to distribute his wealth to all kids in the US in a surprise post on X where he states he’s planning to begin the rollout ‘next year’.
The tweet comes after he publicly spoke out against technology rival company, Anthropic, and its plan to pledge 5 per cent of its shares to a public benefit fund instead of giving the money away to the public directly.
In the post on X, Musk wrote: “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America.”
However, he said that this will be the ‘first of many,’ which hints at the possibility of more things to come.

However, Musk wasn’t forthcoming on the details, of how he’d distribute the wealth, when, or whether it would be a personal lump-sum deposit or via a charity or political program.
However, because he claimed it would come from his SpaceX shares, it’s safe to assume that he’ll be giving money away from his personal holdings and not from SpaceX itself.
According to a Forbes estimation of Musk’s current net worth, it sits at around $908.5 billion.
As the world’s richest person, the Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder was also the first person to briefly reach a trillion net worth.
His promise to give shares to kids comes after his tweet to Anthropic, where he suggested to the company in light of its pledge: “I recommend giving the shares directly to the public.”
Just 12 hours later, he made his own post.
SpaceX shares sit at $146.03 at the time of writing, and as he is the holder of 6.42 billion SpaceX shares as of June 30, his shares far outweigh the number of children residing in America right now.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 21.1 per cent of 341.8 million population are under the age of 18.
This means there is around 72.1 million minors in total.
So, if all 72 million receive a SpaceX share, they would receive around $10.5 billion each.
However, Musk didn’t clarify what other eligibility criterion there was to qualify.

Recently, Musk has been in the news for a number of reasons, and some to do with money.
For example, he was the subject of the recently released documentary, titled Musk, which led to a number of headlines after former MAGA influencer and mother of his 13th child Ashley St Clair claimed she turned down $40 million to sign a non-disclosure agreement with the billionaire.
She alleges she turned this down so she could speak out about their child Romulus, and featured in the documentary to reveal that Musk apparently told her he is creating a ‘legion of children’ to prepare for an upcoming civil war – but there is no clear insight on where the war is or when.
