Jeremy Clarkson takes aim at Nigel Farage as he teases bid to become MP

After multiple career pivots, is Jeremy Clarkson set to turn his sights to politics next?

Jeremy Clarkson has proved he's a man of many talents after leaving behind his Top Gear and Grand Tour life to own his own farm, launch a beer, and open a pub.

But while the Clarkson's Farm star will turn his hand to pretty much anything, he's never shied away from expressing his loathing at the people involved in politics.

Just last week, the 65-year-old took aim at Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, suggesting 'numbers don't add up'.

"Nigel Farage rarely talks about the economy and when he does, his numbers don’t add up," the columnist wrote.

"He says he wants to cut taxes and increase spending by £150 billion. Huh? But before anyone has the chance to question his logic, he scuttles back to his safe space and starts raging about small boats."

He continued, taking aim at Prime Minister Keir Starmer, writing: "Starmer, meanwhile, has no clue what to do about the economy because he’s thick. That’s why he’s broken it.”

But while Clarkson is routinely critical of policymakers, the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host has left many fans hopeful he might be ready to take a crack at it himself, in his hometown of Doncaster.

Taking to X yesterday (12 October), he wrote: "People of Doncaster North. Are you happy with your MP? Would you like it if someone from your neck of the woods kicked him out?"

The seat he was referring to belongs to former Labour leader and current Energy and net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband, and has done for the last two decades.

Clarkson has been vocal about disagreeing with Miliband's net zero policies, citing the harmful impacts they have on the UK farming industry.

This isn't the first time Clarkson has hinted about launching into the world of politics, after he tweeted in 2013 suggesting he might stand for the Doncaster North seat.

“I'm thinking I might stand in the next election as an independent for Doncaster North, which is where I'm from," he wrote, adding: "Thoughts?”

Since his most recent post suggesting a renewed interest in running for the seat, Clarkson's social medias have been flooded with encouraging comments, including those from several politicians.

Ex-Reform MP Rupert Lowe wrote on X: "I hope Clarkson stands."

Leader of Conservative group London Assembly and failed London mayoral candidate Susan Hall added: "Go for it Jeremy, pleeeeease!"

Right-wing political commentator Nicholas Lissack commented: "I’d love nothing more than to see Jeremy Clarkson take on Ed Miliband in an election.

"Miliband’s net-zero fanaticism has made life unbearable for Britain’s farmers, and it’s only right that a farmer should be the one to send him packing. Do it, Jeremy. Fight for our farmers."
