Kat Von D shares tattoo update after deciding to blackout entire body following 'first-of-its-kind' lawsuit

The LA Ink star began the process back in 2020

Kat Von D has shared a big update regarding her decision to blackout parts of her body.

The 43-year-old, who rose to fame after appearing on both Miami Ink and LA Ink, was very well-known for her numerous tattoos, so when she announced in 2020 that she'd be covering up a huge portion of them, it surprised a few people.

As for why she'd decided to do this, she said that she'd become 'tired of waking up to them', and that she had been 'fed up' with them for a while.

So far, she's covered parts of her legs and arms, though she's left a few, including a portrait of her father on her arm and another on her left leg.

And in a recent Instagram post, she revealed that her transformation is almost complete.

She shared a video of herself in the studio as the tattoo artist began stencilling and filling in some flowers on her shoulder, collarbone, and neck.

Von D wrote in the caption: "Can’t believe @hoode215 is almost done with my blackout bodysuit. What a journey it’s been!"

And many in the comments were quick to praise the work, as one person said: "Looks amazing!"

Meanwhile, a second commented: "It’s just so pleasing to the eye! I love it so much!"

And a third wrote: "I love the leaves so pretty."

In 2021, the musician faced a unique lawsuit when a photographer, Jeff Sedlik, sued her for copyright infringement over one of her tattoos.

Von D had tattooed a picture of the jazz musician Miles Davis on a client's arm. Still, Sedlik argued that it constituted copyright infringement because it was based on an original photo he'd taken.

However, three years later, in 2024, a jury ruled in her favour and found her not guilty of copyright infringement, which left her relieved.

She said: "I’m just so grateful that the jurors took their time and unanimously agreed. I have a feeling setting precedence like that will only help tattooers and other artists in the future."

However, the process took its toll on her physically and mentally as she added: "I lost weight, I lost hair, and I lost many nights of sleep over it.

“As much as I knew this person didn’t deserve a penny from me, there were times that I wanted to settle just to make it stop. But I knew if I didn’t fight, the damage to the tattoo industry and other artists would be so immense, that I couldn’t live with myself.”

She also said that she didn't think she'd 'ever tattoo again' as her 'heart has been crushed through this in different ways'.
