Adrien Brody recreates 'disgusting act' at Oscars and it's even worse

Brody last year received criticism for his 'disgusting' act whilst on stage

Adrien Brody last year made headlines for a ‘disgusting act’ during his acceptance of the award for Best Actor, and this year recreated it whilst presenting the award.

Michael B Jordan won the award for Best Actor this year, with Adrien Brody and the other three acting nominees from last year returning to hand out the awards this time around.

Michael B Jordan’s speech was far shorter than Brody’s almost six minutes long speech last year, and he also kept it pretty tame in terms of simply thanking those close to him and the celebrities who paved the way for him, name-dropping Halle Berry, Will Smith, and Sidney Poitier.

Brody’s performance in The Brutalist was outstanding, however his Oscars campaign is mostly remembered for him taking a piece of chewing gum out his mouth and throwing it to his girlfriend Georgina Chapman on the way to accept his award.

This time round though he made fun of his long speech, pretending to pull out pages of speech to recite, but he also mimed pretending to throw a piece of gum to someone in the crowd.

Brody did not leave it there however, deciding to put it back in his mouth and swallow it whole.

Unsurprisingly the moment was pretty disgusting to watch and led to a major reaction on social media.

Check it out here:

One viewer tweeted: "i’m gonna be thinking about the gum adrien brody swallowed for the next 7 years that it’s in his body."

Another said: "Adrien Brody doing that with his gum is disgusting, why did he act like he forgot he was about to present a f*cking OSCAR!?"

A third viewer tweeted: "adrien brody swallowing that piece of gum was horrible."

Brody and his partner Chapman joined Live With Kelly and Mark backstage at the Oscars last year just moments after his big win where he said about the moment: “I could’ve swallowed it, but I didn’t think about that.

"I had to get rid of it somehow.”

Clearly, despite this being a solution he thought of shortly after it happened last year, it still wasn't fun for viewers either.

This was one of multiple moments criticised from this year's Oscars, with Brody himself getting stick for one of the biggest talking points of the night.

One fan tweeted: "so we have time for Adrien to joke about speaking for too long but no time for the actual winners’ speeches?"

Whilst speeches that run over have always been played out by the Oscars band it was particularly notable this year, with the KPop Demon Hunters team trying to continue their speech for Best Original Song even after their microphone was turned off and the lights went off.

Even the ITV live coverage of the event picked up on the odd choices for time at the event, with Jonathan Ross pointing out that they would have more times for the speeches if they cut down on the number of comedy segments.
