Paris Jackson has explained why she decided to share the details of the damage that her past drug use has done to her nose with the world.

The singer, 27, shared a shocking video to social media on Monday (10 November) explaining that she now has a perforated septum due to years of substance abuse.

This term describes a hole in the tissue that separates your nostrils, according to the Cleveland Clinic, and it can cause symptoms such as dryness, crusting, nosebleeds, nasal obstruction - while it can even deform your nose.

A perforated septum can be cause by a range of things, including infections, injuries, nose conditions, excessively picking your nose and drug misuse.

Jackson, the only daughter of the late 'King of Pop' Michael, explained she deals with the 'very noticeable' side effect due to the hole in her nose.

She explained that since she was 20, a 'really loud' whistling sound rings out of her nose when she breathes.

In a TikTok video where she detailed her health problem, she said: "If you go back to videos, you can hear it when I breathe through my nose."

The model and actress revealed that she has can 'stick a spaghetti noodle' through the hole in her hooter.

Jackson even shone a light up her nostrils to show the damage, while adding: "It’s what you think it’s from. Don’t do drugs, kids."

She celebrated five years of sobriety in January this year and explained she does not want to undergo corrective surgery for her perforated septum as a result of this.

"You have to take pills when you do a surgery that gnarly," Jackson said. "I don’t wanna f**k with that."

The startling video quickly went viral - and a lot of people were left surprised that the American Horror Stories star had offered up this personal information for public consumption.

Now, Jackson has responded to people who were left confused by her candidness.

In the comment section of an Instagram post shared by The Shade Room, she explained her reasoning to the thousands of social media users sharing their thoughts on her admission.

Jackson wrote: "To the people wondering why I shared this, it’s not for you.

"As a recovering heroin/fentanyl/cocaine/alcohol/etc addict, it’s part of my primary purpose to carry the message of recovery to others struggling with it.

"Not to promote it, but just to carry the message. If this isn’t something you relate to, it’s totally understandable why it would be confusing for you. And that’s totally okay."

Jackson said some people might not understand her thought process because they have had a 'different life experience'.

She continued: "I’d be grateful for that! Just know that this is for other people that are either also in recovery, or haven’t found it yet. Much love!"

A host of people applauded Jackson for her honesty, with one responding to her comment saying: "You’re amazing. It’s so important to talk about addiction."

Another wrote: "You are so real. I appreciate your honesty, very helpful for others including myself."

And a third said: "Sending you so much love. Thank you for your vulnerability."
