Peter Kay has only just found out his mum's name
Given that Peter Kay tends to keep his personal life out of the spotlight, it came as a surprise when the comedian admitted that he only found out his mum's real name recently.
The stand-up, 53, appeared on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Wednesday (July 29) to announce additional dates for his The Better Late Than Never tour, which will be his 'final' dates.
While speaking to Sara Cox about his mum’s support, the host asked him what her name was.
“Deidre,” Kay replied, revealing that he was shocked to discover that it was actually not her first name.

“Well, it's Deidre, right, up until about three years ago when I found out it was actually Margaret and her middle name is Deidre, she's Irish and they switch their names round,” he explained.
“So, it were a revelation to me, for all my life she's been Deidre.
“And then, bombshell, while doing something with her passport, it's Margaret. What a shock.”
During the interview, Sara also asked Kay how his wife of over 25 years, Susan, was.
“She's alright, she's very good thank you for asking, yeah she's good,” he replied.
Key went on to explain that his children ‘couldn't comprehend’ what he was telling them about the once-common tradition of shops and businesses closing for a half-day on Wednesdays.
"Half-day closing, do you remember that? Wednesday they shut at 1pm, come again?!," he said. "And nothing opened on a Sunday, I'm trying to explain that to my children, nothing opened up on a Sunday, they can't comprehend it, the streets were empty."
Kay is set to perform in Hull, Cardiff, Brighton and Blackpool, and when asked if the shows really would mark the end of his tour, he said they will be.
"I'm not shy about saying it because all the profits are going to charity, so why not?," he added.
"These are the final, final, apart from the ones I'm doing in Bolton in January for hospice."
Kay said the tour is ‘always being tweaked’ for his fans, adding: "I don't know what is happening half the time.
"And can I just say I'm doing this because it gives me a purpose. All the profits are going to three charities."
The proceeds from the shows will be donated to; The Lily Foundation, Maggie's, and the Be More Laura Foundation.

- Friday, November 13: Brighton Centre, Brighton (8pm)
- Saturday, November 14: Brighton Centre, Brighton (3pm and 7.30pm)
- Saturday, November 21: Blackpool Opera House, Blackpool (3.30pm and 8pm)
Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday.
