Roman Kemp announces he’s leaving Capital FM after ten years

Roman Kemp announces he’s leaving Capital FM after ten years

It's the news we all saw coming

In a move many radio fans anticipated, Roman Kemp has announced that he will be leaving Capital FM.

He made the announcement during today's (19 February) Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp.

He said: "I've got quite a big announcement and it's one that's really weird to say out loud.

"This is going to be my last six weeks on Capital, which is a weird thing to say. This is the oddest moment I've had on the show.

"What I'd like to do over the next few weeks, I don't want sad stuff. What I want is to get to know as many of you as possible. If you've never texted into this show, I want to hear from you."

Kemp had teased a big announcement this morning on social media before he dropped the bombshell that he was leaving.

He's hosted Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp since 2017, meaning his departure will bring an end to seven years of him in the prestigious slot.

Kemp first joined Capital FM in 2014 to present its early Sunday morning show, before getting the evening slots on the radio station's weekend schedule.

In 2016 he joined The Capital Evening Show on weeknights before getting his breakfast show slot a year later.

While it'll be very sad news for his listeners it's also something many of them likely saw coming.

That's because one Mr Jordan North very recently announced he'd be leaving BBC Radio 1 in the near future, prompting plenty of discussion about where he'd end up next.

The most popular theory was that North would take Kemp's spot on air and perhaps we all ought to be listening to people who listen to the radio as they seem to know what's up.

However, if anyone was wondering whether the two would simply swap jobs that doesn't appear to be the case as the BBC has already lined up a replacement for North in the form of Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing.

That's not to say that Kemp will be without work as the Roman era comes to an end on Capital FM, as he's also a presenter on The One Show and has made a number of documentaries.

Naturally his fans were very sad to hear he was going, with people saying they were 'gutted' he was leaving and wishing him well for the future.

You know what they say about all good things.
