Sad reason Seann William Scott disappeared from Hollywood as staggering monthly earnings revealed

The American Pie star doesn't star in as many films as he did in the 2000s

You may have stopped seeing Seann William Scott in movies over the past decade or so - and there's actually an explanation on why that is.

The American comedian is best known for his role as Steve Stifler in the American Pie movie series, while also starring in Final Destination, Dude, Where's My Car?, and being the voice of lovable possum Crash in the Ice Age films.

However, the chunk of these notable roles came in the early to mid-2000s, bar a couple of sequels.

Best known as being the loud, obnoxious and hilarious Stifler, questions have started to be asked as over 25 years since Scott's breakout role, he isn't seen anywhere near Hollywood's elite.

Many believed he was set for a career of superstardom, but the entertainment industry isn't as straightforward as many would think.

It was recently revealed that, while he hasn't secured any leading roles in Hollywood, the star takes around $110,000 (£81,000) home every month, according to court documents.

This is the subtotal of his royalties, interest payments, and dividends.

These figures were made public as a result of his divorce proceedings between the actor and ex-wife Olivia Korenberg, as the couple were married for four years and share a daughter together.

While this isn't bad for an actor who earned just $8,000 (£6,000) for his first appearance as Stifler in 1999, he openly revealed that this was what he was paid, while on a game show.

He explained that he was even a 'churro guy' in a Los Angeles zoo while waiting for the first American Pie to come out.

But there are a number of reasons behind his disappearance from Hollywood, with the actor reportedly entering rehab in 2011 for unspecified health and personal issues, though he has remained adamant that he doesn't really 'party'.

Speaking to MTV News in 2010, he suggested that his role as Stifler may, above all else, have typecast him for the rest of his career, limiting the opportunities which have gone his way.

"I had so much fun and loved the character, [but] I don't want to be known as that character forever," he said at the time.

The actor found it hard to get out of that hot high school, party boy/jock character, which he played to a tee in the early 2000s in some of his more memorable films.

He co-starred with Ashton Kutcher in Dude, Where's My Car? for example, with the latter going on to play more serious roles in The Butterfly Effect and the titular character in Jobs.

However, Scott has more recently branched out into similar titles, starring in psychological thriller Bloodline back in 2018, while also leaving the door open to sequels of some of his past hits.

He also starred in Bad Man, an action-comedy which was released last year, so it's not all bad.
