Six months ahead of his 80th birthday, Sir Rod Stewart reckons that his 'days are numbered' on this earth - so he plans to make the most of every single one of them while he still can.

The music legend, who is one of the best-selling artists of all time, has opened up about his stance on death and how he doesn't fear meeting his maker in the future in a new interview.

Don't worry - Rod is still going strong, however, he's all to aware that our time here is all too fleeting.

Which is why he intends to continue rocking until he simply can't anymore.

The 79-year-old hitmaker, who is wrapping up a more than a decade run on stage in Las Vegas, explained that he plans to make full use of the 'final 15 years' of his life.

And who can blame him - he's overcome more than a few hurdles health-wise over the years and dedicated his life to making great music, so there is a lot to celebrate.

Rod battled both prostate and thyroid cancer in the past, which he says has made him 'more aware' of looking after his body these days.

But he joked that he's taken it so seriously, he's become 'a bit of a hypochondriac'.

Discussing his views on death, the singer - affectionately nicknamed 'Rod the Mod' by fans for his trademark style - told The Sun: "I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear.

"We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.

"I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few - probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy."

He explained that he still 'goes mad' with booze and is the one encouraging his dancers and crew to have a tipple, even though he can't stay up all night like he did in his heyday throughout the 70s and 80s.

"Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show," Rod said.

"The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my rider? You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate.

"We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it."

His favourite tipple is a martini, in case you ever bump into him at a bar by the way.

Somehow, Rod also still manages to fit exercising 'three or four times a week' in his hectic rock 'n' roll lifestyle.

"I keep myself very, very fit," the Brit star added. "I have had the same trainer for 31 years."

I think we all need to be a bit more like Rod, don't you?
