Truth behind Tom Holland always spoiling Marvel films after latest Spider-Man slip
Tom Holland is arguably the biggest box office draw in the entire world, with him and wife Zendaya teaming up to release what will surely become two $1 billion movies within a single two week period.
Holland’s starring roles in both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day could total a whopping $3 billion in box office revenue when all is said and done, confirming the English actor as an undeniable upper-tier A-List celebrity after a meteoric rise since starting out in the MCU back in 2016.
Despite this incredible success there is one narrative that continues to follow the celebrity everywhere: that he spoils everything.
There is an undeniable fact that, early on in his career, Holland appeared to have been plunged into the deep end when it comes to press and this resulted in him letting slip a few pretty big details about the MCU films he was appearing in. Despite this though, the actor has spoken about this ongoing idea that he is a non-stop spoiling machine in a brand new podcast interview.
Tom Holland 'spoils everything' - where did this idea come from?

The earliest example of Holland spoiling a detail was when, during a livestream promoting Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor revealed that during one scene he had been repeatedly dumped in to water. This was a pretty minor spoiler all things considered but went viral due to Holland’s panicked face when he realised he’d given away a plot point in which The Vulture dumps him into a lake.
The true spoiling from Holland however came during the press run for Avengers: Infinity War. There has rarely been a film where spoilers were as precious a commodity as Infinity War and Endgame, and Holland famously revealed that he had filmed scenes in space with the Guardians of the Galaxy on Jimmy Kimmel before this was public knowledge.
His worst moment however took place when, during an opening night screening of Infinity War, the actor got mixed up between whether he was coming on stage before or after the film.
Believing the movie was finished Holland ran out on stage yelling: “Don’t worry everybody, I’m still alive!” The movie was not done however, giving away that Spider-Man ‘died’ at the end of the film.
Even his most recent press tour, whilst mostly spoiler-free, may have given away a hint at a future moment in the MCU that fans are speculating.
In a recent interview on Celebrity Substitute Tom Holland was outfoxed by some children who asked if Tobey Maguire was going to be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and he confirmed that Tobey is not coming back.
Whilst he easily could have left it there he did then go 'well...' before doubling down - which for many confirmed an ongoing rumour.
Tobey is indeed not in Brand New Day, but he has however been widely speculated to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. All signs from the early trailers point towards the film having 'incursions' that threaten to destroy entire world's, and a lot of rumours have swirled around the movie that Tobey would appear in the opening to Doomsday.... just for his world to be destroyed to dust. If you believe fans online - Tom was duped by some children into unwittingly confirming this.
Holland’s most famous moment of ‘spoiling’ the MCU is far from the truth, and he’s all but confirmed it in a new interview
Once the English actor’s reputation became that he spoiled films every press run for a new Spider-Man or Avengers film became centred around one thing: what can people get out of him before the movie comes out.
This culminated in the press for Infinity War, when Holland went on Instagram live to share a new poster for the film that he said Mark Ruffalo had sent to him. He excitedly shared the poster with his followers, only realising once he took out a note from Ruffalo that it came with a big sign saying ‘confidential, do not share’ before ending the live in a panic.
This solidified the lore that Holland spoils MCU films without even trying, but in a new interview he all but confirmed what many have long believed: that this was all set up.
Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he was asked about whether he got a ‘bad rap’ over the years regarding spoilers. He said that ‘part of him loves it’, but continued: “I think it's been really fun this whole idea of me spoiling things and I have spoiled things, right?
“It’s not completely out of the blue, you know, but then again there are some times where we have maybe lent into it to try and create some buzz on the internet.”
He finally admitted that he is pretty loose lipped, saying: “It's only because I'm really excited. Like, I love these movies. I'm a fan first. For 10 years before I joined this amazing universe, I was first in line at the cinema.
“So, I feel like I'm a fan that kind of got into the trenches with them, you know, and sometimes when I do these interviews, I want to tell everyone what's going on because I'm excited.”
