Tulisa has opened up on her experience with ayahuasca after going to a retreat where she went through three ceremonies with the substance.
Ayahuasca is a psychedelic brew with hallucinogenic properties, as Healthline explains it's made from the leaves of the Psychotria viridis shrub and the stalk of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine.
It is illegal in certain parts of the world, but in other places it is an important ceremonial substance.
Tulisa explained in a post on Instagram that she'd spent seven nights at an ayahuasca retreat and thoroughly prepared for the experience, which seems fortunate as in her post she said she 'witnessed two individuals who didn’t prepare, it didn’t go well'.

She wrote: "I personally prepared by being T-total/ total abstinence/ meditation/diet/ 3 months prior. Though it is only a two week period prior required but I wanted to get the most out of it.

"The main message I received was the ability to see my own light & purpose, mostly through the eyes of those I love & that love me."
In total she went through three ceremonies she described as 'super emosh', and 'spent hours crying' during the first one.
"I connected with loved ones who’ve passed, including Uncle B, & the higher consciousness of those currently in my life, & those with unresolved conflict, past lives/soul contracts, those yet to enter my future, as well as possible glimpses of my future," she explained in her post.
"How much truth was in that will be revealed in time."
Tulisa said she 'felt the higher consciousness (God)' and liked the experience to a 'spiritual labour'.
"I asked for the death of my ego, only to realize my ego was my survival protection due to a deep fear of being misunderstood," she further explained.
"I emerged even more assured & empowered on my path.
"The second ceremony was heavy due to exhaustion. So I asked to be pulled out."
Tulisa said that the people running the resort looked after her very well after she asked to be pulled out of the second ceremony, and she went in for a third one later.
During that experience she said she 'purged for about six hours' and was 'consistently throwing up releasing old trauma & anxiety'.
She said: "I’d say I feel like a new woman, but I more so understand & remember who I am. I feel more balanced, grounded, calm, self assured & powerful.
"This intense & sacred experience isn’t for the faint hearted, but if you’re ready for growth, it’s worth researching."
