Well LADs, summer is truly here – the World Cup has finally kicked off.

The tournament started last night (11 June) with Mexico facing South Africa in a chaotic match of three red cards and one goal.

But before the football actually began, there was the opening ceremony at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca. This comes before the US and Canada each host theirs, with Katy Perry, Tyla, Lisa, Rema and Anitta all lined-up.

And last night fans were treating to icons such as Shakira and Burna Boy performing the official World Cup song, Dai Dai.

Except, it seems not everyone is convinced it was actually the World Cup banger maker on the stage, as some social media users have suggested the ‘Hips Don't Lie’ singer had a ‘body double’.

The conspiracy theories are flying online as some slam that It was ‘not Shakira’, supposedly noting ‘mistakes’ in her performance and differences in her appearance.

“This person is NOT Shakira,” many agreed.

Throughout the week and last night the official Instagram account for the singer had shared behind-the-scenes of rehearsals for the ‘Dai Dai’ performance as well as clips and photos from the night itself.

“What's up with Shakira? She looked like a completely different person (compared to) a few weeks ago in Rio de Janeiro. IS THAT A BODY DOUBLE?” X users questioned.

“I'm crying, how is it that they've put Shakira's stunt double at the inauguration????” another slammed.

While others simply called it a ‘bad double’ as they just cannot be convinced it really was her.

“I feel like at the very last second they called in a stunt double, because she doesn't have her energy, nor does she look the same, and then she comes out wearing glasses. What do you think?” one questioned

But others are quickly shutting down the conspiracy theories as they reckon her appearance may have just changed recently.

One put: “After a thorough investigation into the rumours that the person who appeared today is not Shakira, I'll tell you what the expert fans say: they assure that it is indeed her. They mention a scar on her forehead, she looks tall because she's wearing sneakers with a higher sole, and she appears thinner. As for her face, they consider that the swelling attributed to Botox would be an additional factor, and that would explain the use of the glasses.”

Another slammed: “But they were saying it wasn't @shakira jajajajaj, indisputably it is.”

The LADbible Group has contacted representatives for Shakira for comment.
