Zendaya and Robert Pattinson have left fans shook after a newspaper announcement for the pair’s ‘engagement’ went viral on social media.

Many fans of the two who haven’t seen the posts may be left a bit confused by that statement, thinking that Zendaya is actually engaged to Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson has been in a relationship with Suki Waterhouse for years.

You would be correct in that thinking, but anyone picking up US newspaper The Boston Globe yesterday would have been met with a bizarre sight regardless – an engagement announcement accompanied by a picture of the pair of Hollywood superstars.

This was, of course, an elaborate marketing plot to announce a new film starring the pair, which released its first trailer today.

Called The Drama, the announcement in the newspaper was for their characters Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson, and is a brand new A24 romance film.

The Boston Globe posted about how it came about, saying that they received an ‘unusual request’ on Monday, asking if they could hold their ‘daily TV Critic’s Corner column so an ad could run in that space in print, right next to the Love Letters romance advice column’.

This turned out to be the mock engagement for the film.

Fans on social media have praised the marketing move, with one comment saying: “This is such a smart move from their marketing team, would stop me in my tracks! I love that it’s next to love letters.”

One fan tweeted questioning whether’ A24 actually placed an engagement announcement in The Boston Globe as part of the film’s marketing’, with one fan quoting this to say: “love the idea of someone who doesn’t know who they are reading the morning paper just thinking the most beautiful couple in the world just dropped.”

Other comments on Reddit simply praised the first look, with one saying they ‘lowkey look good together’, while another said: “I know nothing about this movie, the plot, or the other members of the cast but this poster has me immediately interested.

“Good job for whoever designed this.”

Beyond the various weird social media comments bizarrely poking fun at Tom Holland, one of the big takeaways that many fans have had from the trailer is how this makes 2026 a huge year for both Zendaya and Pattinson, who are now starring in three hotly anticipated films together.

As well as The Drama, which has drawn a lot of interest from the engagement announcement and subsequent trailer, Zendaya and Pattinson are also starring together in Dune 3 and The Odyssey.

One fan tweeted: “What an insane run for them both.”

Another comment on Reddit: “Zendaya and Pattinson having quite the year in 2026...Dune, Odyssey, Spider-Man, this.”

Plot details forThe Drama have been kept mostly under wraps so far, with the mysterious tagline simply saying: "Days before their wedding, a couple's relationship is shaken when one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other."

The Drama is set to release in Spring 2026.
