Rick and Morty could run ‘forever’, says co-creator Dan Harmon
Co-creator Justin Roiland also shared a similar sentiment noting that he ‘could run as long as we want it to’.
Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon reckons the show could go on forever as it feels ‘infinite’.
While chatting about the upcoming sixth season to TheWrap, Harmon said he could make the adult animation series return again and again.
He said: “As far as the longevity of the show, to me, it just feels infinite.
"That’s kind of the easy part. And I think that might be the cause of some frustration on the fans’ part, because my original commitment to just, I think a good TV show is one that lasts 1,000 episodes.”

As the series spans multiple universes and the iconic duo embarks on interdimensional adventures, the possibilities are endless, which could see the show run for countless seasons.
He added: “You don’t design a paper airplane to land at a certain spot a certain distance for you.
"A good paper airplane is the one that stays in the air forever, and that’s impossible but you fold it in a way that that’s the goal.”
Co-creator Justin Roiland also shared a similar sentiment, noting that he and his team ‘could run as long as we want it to’.
While season six hasn’t even aired yet, the showrunners are already working on season eight.
In 2018, between seasons three and four, Adult Swim ordered 70 new episodes of Rick and Morty.
Because each season usually consists of 10 episodes, the show could easily reach a 10th season.
However, Harmon spoke of the difficulties ‘juggling’ multiple episodes, particularly while devising plot-lines for Rick, as he revealed he’s considered killing him off, as per Streaming Rant.
He said: “With Rick, we recognised early on that eventually this guy’s going to be a living god.
"We can’t go where we want to with these sci-fi stories without endowing this man with powers that kind of make him invincible.
“We rarely tell stories where the stakes you’re feeling are like the Adam West Batman endings where it’s like ‘Oh my God, is Rick gonna die?’”
“The emotional core of it is what’s at stake. It usually has to do with the relationship with Morty.”
He added: “Rick has a dark past.”
And hopefully, we get to see this more ominous side to the show in the upcoming season when it drops later this month.
