It's an outside chance, but there's a chance that the Golden Globe winner could follow Daniel Craig as Agent 007

As the end of Daniel Craig's time playing the role of James Bond draws ever nearer, the speculation continues to ramp up as to who will be the next Agent 007.

It seems as if the odds change every week and nobody really knows who will don the famous tuxedo in films to come, but a surprise candidate has had her odds slashed recently.

Yeah, that's right. HER odds.

As it stands, you can currently get odds of 12/1 at a couple of bookies on any woman getting the role, but in the past couple of days Emily Blunt has dropped down to about 40/1.

That is still pretty long, but if you were so inclined you might see a bit of value in that.

One person who thinks that it should happen is Blunt's husband John Krasinski. The director of A Quiet Place, in which he stars alongside his wife, obviously thinks that she would do a great job.

He told the Evening Standard: "I think a woman Bond would be amazing... They just did it on Doctor Who and people went ballistic [with excitement].

"Emily would be an amazing Bond. Would she do it? I don't know. But I would love to see her do it. I love to see her do anything, but the Bond franchise for me is so [great]."

With regards to male candidates, the front runner to play the next James Bond with most of the bookies is either Tom Hardy or James Norton.

The two stars have been locked together at the top with most of the betting shops for a few months now, but in recent times a lot of money has been waged on Idris Elba, so much so that his price has come down significantly from 12/1 to 8/1.

Whilst this isn't anything new, Coral report that bets on Elba have increased - possibly as a result of the new series of Luther being announced yesterday.

They told the Express: "Idris Elba has been suggested as a candidate for the next James Bond for a while now but if the bets we're seeing are anything to go by he would be a hugely popular pick as 007."

Also in the hunt for the role are actors like Boardwalk Empire and American Hustle star Jack Huston, as well as Poldark's Aidan Turner.

In the meantime, Daniel Craig will take on the role of James Bond for one last time in the unnamed 25th Bond film.
