After 12 years it has been announced that 22 Jump Street is getting a sequel, but they will be skipping a number to make it happen.
Last night, 10 June, it was revealed that 24 Jump Street was in the works with major stars from the film series negotiating their return.
The Jump Street films are a reboot of a classic 80s TV show which starred Johnny Depp, but are now best known for the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill version which also featured Ice Cube, Dave Franco, Brie Larson, Wyatt Russell, and Nick Offerman.
Channing Tatum had been open in the past about how he’d love to do another sequel but stated that the fee of one of the producers on the film was the biggest barrier to making it happen. A previous version of a possible sequel was leaked however in the 2014 Sony Pictures leak where North Korean hackers hit back at the studio after The Interview, releasing internal documents and emails.
23 Jump Street was supposed to be a Men in Black crossover film, and Tatum said it was the best script he’s ever read

The leak revealed that the planned, and since scrapped, 23 Jump Street was supposed to have Jenko and Schmidt join the Men in Black programme, and even potentially team up with Will Smith’s Agent J.
He spoke to Comicbook.com about the concept in 2024, saying: “There is a project that was written and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie.”
In leaked emails released by hackers Jonah Hill called the concept ‘clean and rad and powerful’, but sadly it never came to be.

Tatum said that the issue with the film series having another sequel lay at the feet of one producer, Neal H Moritz, and their required compensation to produce the film. He explained to Variety: “I don’t think it’ll ever happen. The problem is the overhead.
“It would cost as much as the actual budget of the film — if not more — because of all the producers involved. It’s just too top-heavy. It falls over every time.
“Neal’s price for a producer fee is huge and to be honest, that’s what’s killing it.”
24 Jump Street has been announced, and Tatum, Hill, and Ice Cube are in talks to return
Moritz clearly seems to have worked things out with his fellow producers as he announced the news with a picture of a script for 24 Jump Street written by Rodney Rothman, Jonah Hill, and Meghan Molloy.
A subheading on the script said that ‘it took so long we had to skip one’, with one popular fan theory explaining how they are going to address it.
They tweeted: “It would be too funny if throughout the entire movie they kept referencing things that happened in 23 Jump Street as if it had been a real movie that came out years ago.”

In addition to this 22 Jump Street ended with a comedic montage of what would happen in all the possible sequels, including Jonah Hill not agreeing to come back and being replaced by Seth Rogen in later films.
In this sequence 23 Jump Street saw them going to medical school, whilst 24 Jump Street was ‘Foreign Exchange’ and saw the pair go to Russia with the tagline: “A steaming load of Bolshevik.” If you ask me, I’d pick that over a med school sequel any day (but I am still mourning a Jump Street, Men In Black crossover film).
