Avengers Doomsday pre-sale causes 'Odeon servers to crash' as fans without tickets left furious

Avengers: Doomsday might be months away, but excitement for the film has been so high that tickets for the film being released have crashed websites for multiple UK-based cinema chains.

Doomsday, releasing later this year on 18 December, with Marvel having just re-released Endgame with multiple additional scenes that set up the upcoming return of RDJ as Marvel’s next big bad.

The anticipation for Doomsday was clearly too much for Odeon and Cineworld however with numerous fans on X reporting that they are unable to get tickets, with some even claiming that the system had glitched and charged them without providing a ticket.

Tickets were released at 9am this morning, 28 September, with fans almost instantly taking to social media to complain about issues with acquiring tickets to the new Avengers film.

One of the top comments on Cineworld’s Instagram post announcing tickets were live said: “The most stressful I have EVER been to book 5 tickets simultaneously ! please go back to being able to book with Unlimited friends and family.”

Another comment on Odeon’s Instagram said: “What’s the point in releasing tickets if your servers can’t handle demand.”

Over on X fans reported similar experiences on both Odeon and Cineworld, with one saying: “Has anyone actually managed to get doomsday tickets on odeon yet? Keeps letting me select seats then freezes and I lose them.”

Another fan said: “Odeon having a mare. Doomsday tickets on sale but no limitless option.”

Odeon Limitless is the chain’s ‘passport for movies’, allowing film buffs to pay a monthly subscription which gives them access to unlimited free cinema tickets.

Multiple fans online have reported issues with using Limitless to book tickets for Doomsday, with others saying it would glitch whenever they tried to book using this.

On Reddit one fan said: “Odeon's app and website have completely crashed for over an hour now.

“Literally impossible to book. Yeah, this might hit close to $3 billion worldwide.”

Whilst some initial estimates for Avengers: Doomsday forecasted it struggling to meet the heights of Infinity War and Endgame, the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Endgame Encore has increased confidence that Doomsday will be a huge success.

Brand New Day has become the highest grossing release in North American history, earning over $2.9 billion worldwide, whilst Endgame Encore has led the box office this past weekend, leaving it just $40 million away from overtaking Avatar and becoming the highest grossing film ever made.
