As we get older, we tend to gravitate to nostalgic childhood characters – who never age thanks to being fictional. However, after Woody started showing signs of wear and tear, people have freaked out online over his age, and that of his on-screen wife.
How old is Woody? That’s the question that has been on everyone’s lips on social media, ever since the news that Pixar was bringing out Toy Story 5 on 19 June 2026.
The loveable cowboy has been a staple in the lives of those who grew up in the 90s, and now, it’s reaching a new generation of children, who will know Woody and friends as they enter a new phase of life.
Old age.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Britt, toys don’t age.”
Oh, but sweet summer child...you’d be wrong.
So, it is well known that Woody was around 38 years old in the first 1995 movie, thanks to some little tidbits of information that came to light in the second flick, such as his 1950s manufacturing, but the continuation of the films have seen major time jumps – leading to the toys to be a lot older than you’d think.
But that doesn’t mean that people are ready to face the truth.
It all began when a trailer showed Woody with a strange little bald patch, showing that the paint used on his hair had rubbed away after years of wear.
Of course, this is also a tell-tale sign of men aging, which could show that the creators are leaning into the fact that Woody would be (let me do some math here), around 50 years old, or in his 60s, max, if we take into account human time, as opposed to Toy Story time hop time.
A Redditor worked out: “The first movie is said to have happened in 1995 (the same year it came out in real life), so Woody is 38 years old at the time. The second Toy Story is 4 years later, so he's 42 and in the sequels he's 53 and 62.”

It's never easy to see those you love start to show the signs of time, and people just don’t seem to be ready to see this, with Bustle writer Rachel Lapidos stating: “I wasn’t prepared for it — and neither, it seemed, were his fellow toy friends, who quite literally recoiled as sunlight from the window bounced off Woody’s visible scalp and into their eyes.”
Another said: “Even toys can’t escape aging.”
Someone else wrote: “Pixar really said nobody is safe from aging, not even Woody. This is going to hit us all right in the feels.”
But there’s an even freakier age fact. Bo Peep, who has been Woody’s love interest since the first flick, is decades older than him, and (let me math, again) that could mean she’s anywhere up to 90 years old in 2026.
That’s not an age gap I’m comfortable with, guys. Seems like Peep should be with Old MacDonald.
However, Tom Hanks has a different thought on Woody’s new appearance, stating that ‘he has been played with to excess,’ per a conversation with Entertainment Weekly.
"You put a rubber hat on top of a rubber head again and again and again and again, something's gonna chafe," he said. "So, yeah, he does have… let's say a worn area on the back of his head.”
