Disney fans have one burning question about Woody after watching Toy Story 5 trailer

The beloved pull-string cowboy doll has surprised fans by making an appearance in the short preview clip

Although there's plenty to talk about in regards to the Toy Story 5 teaser trailer, fans of the franchise have one burning question at the forefront of their minds.

People got a glimpse of what is in store for the fifth instalment of Pixar's popular film series on Tuesday (11 November) after the 50-second preview dropped.

All of our favourite faces are back - including Buzz Lightyear, Mr and Mrs Potato Head, Slinky and Rex - for what will no doubt be another wacky adventure in the next movie.

Cutlery companions Forky and Knifey, who joined the gang in Toy Story 4, also make an appearance in the teaser trailer.

Take a look at it for yourself here:

Fans have been introduced to the latest antagonist that the beloved characters are up against this time around - an electronic tablet named Lilypad.

The toys will be battling against technology for Bonnie's attention in Toy Story 5, as they're seen looking horrified as she unboxes her new gadget.

But the spotlight is on a familiar face from the film franchise rather than the new villain, as people were left extremely surprised to see that Woody is back.

Longtime fans said an emotional goodbye to the pull-string cowboy doll in the 2019 film, which culminated with him leaving his pals in favour of becoming a 'lost toy' with Bo Peep, as he realises he is no longer Bonnie's favourite.

However, at the end of the teaser trailer, Woody is seen embracing his best mate Buzz in terror as Bonnie opens the package with Lilypad inside.

Given that he flew the nest in Toy Story 4, people have been left pretty baffled by Woody's return - and fans are wondering how on earth Pixar are going to explain his comeback.

One person said: "So Woody just comes back...like Toy Story 4 never happened?"

Another commented: "We're gonna pretend Woody wasn't left at a carnival in Toy Story 4?"

As a third added: "Imagine if Toy Story 5 doesn’t even explain how Woody got back, and he’s just there, and nobody brings attention to that, like the fourth movie never happened."

And a fourth chimed in: "Bringing Woody back immediately destroys the entire emotional impact and finality of Toy Story 4. It proves that no ending is sacred in Hollywood."

Others suggested people were kicking up a fuss over nothing, while gently reminding the masses of adults arguing about the topic online that Toy Story is primarily targeted at children.

"People are behaving like Woody died in Toy Story 4 and can’t come back," one social media user pointed out. "He was at a carnival in the same city ffs, of course he can come back."

A second said: "I’ll eat my words if this isn’t true but I reeeeeeeally don’t think woody is just gonna randomly be back without some sort of explanation? The Toy Story franchise has been consistent from the start."

While another wrote: "People are over thinking Woody being back in Toy Story 5 lol, it’s a kids film. Also why couldn’t he just be visiting his friends?"

Well, we're going to have to wait until 19 June, 2026, to find out, as that is when the movie will land in cinemas.

A lot of people thought the fourth film would be the end of the Toy Story franchise, given it's dramatic ending which saw Woody go his own way.

Tom Hanks, who has voiced the character since 1995, previously told how he had to face the wall while recording his last lines for the flick because it was so emotional.

He said at a press conference in 2019: "I didn't want to have any self-consciousness for what I knew was going to be the last few hours I was spending with the movie.

"When it came to pass, I felt as though I was on the other side of the river waving to everybody I had left back in the old country. It was pretty profound.

"You drive into the lot, through the same gate, you park in the same spot they had for you, then you go through the same doors, get in your car and you drive back through.

"And you think, 'I have recorded the last moment of the current Toy Story'."

Tim Allen, who voices Buzz, also previously told The Talk that the finale in Toy Story 4 was 'emotional' and admitted he 'couldn't even get through the last scene'.

"A couple of scenes toward the end were really hard to get through," he said earlier.

But it seems the tears we - and the cast members - shed at the end of the last film were all for nothing, as Woody is right back where he belongs.
