There's a 'disturbing' film that fans should have in their watch list and it's left some viewers cursing the day they sat down to watch it.

Of course, all this did is make more people want to see it - with one viewer even labelling it a 'masterpiece'.

The 2010 war film was directed by a name that is now one of the biggest in Hollywood, Dune director Denis Villeneuve, but this was widely regarded as his breakout piece.

The story follows twins of a dying Middle Eastern woman living in Canada, who leaves them separate letters to be read following her death, with her daughter delivering hers to the father that the twins never met, and her son delivering his to the brother that they never knew either.

Travelling to the Middle East separately, they begin to uncover the uneasy history of their family and the revelations about themselves, with horrific consequences.

The film was an award season darling, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as winning eight Genie awards, including Best Motion Picture.

It is called Incendies and you can view the trailer here:

Incendies is based on a play written by Lebanese writer Wajdi Mouawad, and though the country is not named in the film, the events shown are apparently inspired by the Lebanese Civil War.

The film managed to gross $16 million (£12.3 million) against a $6.5 million (£5 million) budget, with critics rating the screen adaptation very highly as it also boasts a score of 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Facebook group Netflix Bangers, one user wrote: “Sometimes I wish I had never watched this movie,” and several other group members chiming in and sharing their thoughts on the film.

Another said it was a 'horrifying' watch, while someone else shared: “I watched this movie [a] long time ago. Very sad and very disturbing... Very disturbing movie really.”

A different user also said that it was quite 'disturbing'.

However, many on IMDb called it 'incredible' and 'stunning', as one person wrote: "This film is extraordinary on just about every level. The script is terrific, the actors are perfect, the direction and cinematography are all you could hope for.

"I recommend it without hesitation."

Following the success of the film, Villeneuve has since become an A-list name in Hollywood, directing his fair share of blockbuster films.

Some of these include Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune and Dune: Part Two, with a third part of the latter series set to be released in the next two years.

Incendies is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
