15 years on from Inception coming out, it is still one of Christopher Nolan’s most popular and heavily discussed films.

Whether it be the way to figure out the true meaning behind the ending of the movie or simply how stacked the cast is, the Nolan classic has stood the test of time.

Some fans, however, made a startling discovery about Inception that appears to totally change the film.

Now is also the perfect time for revisiting Inception, Interstellar, and The Dark Knight fan theories, as it was announced that Nolan’s films would all be returning to cinemas later this year.

Cineworld will be running the deal that will see filmmaker's projects, from Inception up to Oppenheimer, all returning to the big screen across the UK.

Over on Reddit, Inception is heavily discussed, leading one fan to ask what people’s favourite theory is.

The most popular comment suggested that the movie’s core plot has actually misled the viewer.

The discovery ties into existing theories that fans had put together, specifically those noticing what they thought was a ‘plot hole’ in the film.

For those who need a refresher on the plot of Inception, Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is hired to ‘incept’ an idea into someone’s dream.

Cobb, still plagued by the death of his wife, works to move into the dreams of people and steal their secrets, but this time he is encouraged to leave something behind to try and influence their minds.

Alongside a team of people he is hired to incept the mind of Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), with the idea that he should split his newly inherited company in half.

Per the Reddit theory, however, this was all a ruse.

The comment said: “My favourite is that Cobb is the actual target of the Inception. The goal to remove the guilt that has been destroying him over the death of his wife.”

The theory completely reframes the film and fits into the existing theory where people believed the same due to a plot hole.

The plot hole in question was his ‘totem’, a device they use to figure out if they’re in dreams or the real world.

Cobb’s is flawed and viewers had previously pointed out that this could mean he may be the target of the Inception.

The Reddit commenter, however, pointed to another detail that suggests it, saying: “As we know from the movie, this starts with an idea.

“This idea being the quote that starts off the movie, and is repeated at various parts, ‘Do you want to become an old man, filled with regrets, waiting to die alone?’”

The concept is a crazy one and totally changes the focus of the movie.

With tickets going live to see Inception in cinemas across the UK, now seems like the perfect time to revisit the DiCaprio classic and watch it through a totally new lens, one where Cobb is the one being incepted.

Tickets for the rerelease of Inception are available to purchase here.
