Keanu Reeves begged to be killed off in John Wick 4 as he was 'exhausted' and 'destroyed'

Keanu Reeves begged to be killed off in John Wick 4 as he was 'exhausted' and 'destroyed'

He was a 'shell of himself' when the final movie was done.

Keanu Reeves was apparently done with his John Wick character following the fourth film.

While fans probably could have enjoyed 10 more movies in the franchise, it seems as though the actor was feeling the brunt of all those scenes.

There's no shortage of action sequences in the four-film saga and ScreenRant says Reeves did an impressive number of stunts himself.

However, when Chapter 4 came around, he begged for it to be his last.

Franchise producer Basil Iwanyk told Collider: "After the second, third, and fourth movie, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally

"By the end, he’s always like, 'I can’t do this again,' and we agree with him.

"The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it.

"He was like, 'I wanna be definitively killed at the end of this movie'.

"We were like, 'You know, we’ll leave a 10 per cent little opening'."

It's heavily implied that Wick dies at the end of Chapter 4, however it wouldn't be surprising if that was all a ruse and Reeves returns for a fifth movie.

Iwanyk isn't ruling out another instalment with Reeves in the hot seat.

However, he admits there might be some time will be needed to let the dust settle.

"We all want another John Wick," he said.

"We don’t know what it looks like and when it will happen, but we love each other and we love this world.

"It’s gonna be all hands to try to figure it out. Have we figured it out? No. And if we can’t figure it out, will there be one? No, of course not. No one is gonna try to just jam it for the sake of jamming it."

John Wick director Chad Stahelski also didn't rule out a fifth film but says it would have to be an incredible idea for it to be made.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reeves said he’ll only consider a fifth helping if Stahelski was involved.

He said: “I don't know, I guess I'm going to have to lean on never say never. I mean,

"I wouldn't do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski. We'd have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace.”

While fans wait for that news, at least the Wick universe is continuing to grow.

A film spinoff titled Ballerina stars Ana de Armas and is expected to be released next year and the TV series The Continental will drop next month.
