Keira Knightley reveals reason why she bought sex toys for co-star when starring in film together on Graham Norton show

Kiera Knightley has revealed that she shockingly purchased sex-toys for her co-star during the filming of a movie and the reason is hilarious.

There’s all sorts of things actors get up to when the director shouts ‘cut’, but a trip to Anne Summers isn’t usually it.

However, if you’re Knightley in 2011, there’s a reason why you might find it appropriate to gift such a bizarre thing.

When the actress appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday (November 29), she was joined by Michael Fassbender, who was the co-star in question.

The pair were asked about a flick the had filmed together more than a decade ago, and things got weird on the red sofa as the pair took a trip down memory lane.

According to the duo, they filmed a movie together called A Dangerous Method, which is a psychological drama which explores the difficult relationships between psychoanalysts Carl Jung (Fassbender) and Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) and a patient-who-became-a-colleague called, Sabina Spielrein (Knightley).

She even admitted to having to drank alcohol to get through some scenes.

Basically, it’s a true story based on the tale of Spielrein, who grew up in Russia and experienced a trauma-filled childhood, leading her to become Jung’s first patient who he began to treat her using his mentor’s (Freud) practices.

However, Jung went on to have an affair with her and Freud fell in love with her and it became this uncomfortable love triangle, which saw nobody end up together and remain friends and colleagues.

By the way, if you think the name Freud sounds familiar, it might be because he’s the bloke who had a theory that every man wanted to sleep with his mum… so there’s that.

It’s the Oedipus complex which he believed meant that boys and men wanted to eliminate their fathers and shack up with their own mothers, which is pretty weird, man.

Anyway, Knightley and Fassbender were working on this film and some of those scenes included some ‘spanking’.

When sitting on Norton’s sofa, the 39-year-old told the host: “Basically it was about spanking. Michael had to spank me.”

That’s when Fassbender then joked: “I was the spanker. You were the spankee.”

The pair then revealed that it took a lot of work to spank without causing pain, but to also make it look as real as possible, which is why Knightley ended up having ‘a Yellow Pages between [her] bum and the paddle!’

Because of the theme of the film, Knightley decided to bestow a little gift for those on set so that they could remember the experience forever, explaining: “I bought Michael and three other cast members their very own spanking paddles.

“I had to go into a sex shop and say, 'Hello, can I have three spanking paddles, please?'”

Fassbender was on the show to promote his new TV series The Agency where he plays a CIA agent, while Knightley was there to talk about her Netflix TV show, Black Doves.
