Leonardo DiCaprio has one of the deepest catalogues of beloved films of nearly any major actor, yet fans hoping to watch one of his most underrated classics have been given a strict deadline.

DiCaprio has embarked on the press tour for his newest film, One Battle after Another, and has made headlines for stating he is ‘mentally 35’.

As much as he may occasionally make headlines for reasons outside of acting, it is undeniable that DiCaprio’s filmography is one of the greatest ever.

Of the films that are on Netflix alone, he stars in Django Unchained, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Wolf of Wall Street, Gangs of New York and multiple more.

There is about to be one less on the list, however, with Blood Diamond set to be taken off. Released in 2006, Blood Diamond saw DiCaprio star alongside Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly.

It stars Hounsou as Solomon Vandy, a man abducted and forced to work in diamond mines, during which he finds a priceless diamond.

DiCaprio plays Danny Archer, a Zimbabwean gun runner who promises to help Solomon find his family in return for the diamond.

The film got five Oscar nominations, including DiCaprio for Best Actor and Hounsou for Best Supporting Actor; however, it walked home with none.

Calling it a ‘hidden gem’ may be surprising as a result of this. Still, the film is arguably one of the least recognisable of DiCaprio’s wide filmography, many of which have been nominated for and even won Oscars.

Some fans have recently gone back to watch it and heaped praise on the film.

One fan took to the Rotten Tomatoes audience section last month, giving the movie five stars and saying: “This is a superbly cast, well-acted, brilliantly directed movie. Love it.”

Another from earlier this year said: “One of the greatest films of all time in my opinion. Undoubtedly my favourite performance by Leo.”

One popular 4.5-star review pointed to the film’s ‘terrifying’ background story but noted how it is still ‘surprisingly funny’.

Christy Lemire, writing about the film at the time of its release, said of the movie: “It has an intensity that's just spellbinding, with surprises around every corner -- many of them horrifying.”

Richard Roeper, writing for the Chicago Sun-Times, said of the film in his perfect four out of four star review: “Blood Diamond is a work of amazingly orchestrated chaos.”

Any fans who want to take these recommendations and watch the film will have to move quickly, however.

Netflix’s deal on the film license looks set to expire, with Blood Diamond being taken off the platform in just a few weeks.

Until September 7, though, when the film is taken off the platform, subscribers will have a chance to watch the DiCaprio classic.
