Seth Rogen and James Franco have had a feud in which Franco admitted that their friendship was ‘over’, so it will come as a shock to many fans that Rogen has given an update on a possible Pineapple Express sequel.
Rogen was asked about the possibility of the film returning amid his ongoing promotion of Platonic season two, appearing on Watch What Happens Live.
The 2008 comedy classic stars Rogen alongside James Franco, Danny McBride, and Amber Heard and quickly became a cult classic.
Whilst Rogen has stated he is unwilling to work with Franco moving forward, he is still open to a Pineapple Express sequel.

He answered saying ‘maybe’, adding: “We can probably sell it to streaming or something… There could be [big demand].
“You never know. I don’t know. I’m not great with sequels. It’s not where my mind goes, but maybe one day.”

If a sequel were to be made, however, it would be almost certain to not include James Franco in the cast.
What happened between James Franco and Seth Rogen?
Rogen and Franco’s public falling out dates back to allegations made against Franco in the wake of his awards run for The Disaster Artist.

Several women came forward during this time with allegations of sexual misconduct against Franco, including one ex-partner who accused him of sexual assault.
The most high profile of these allegations accused him of sleeping with several of the students at an acting school he set up.
Though he admitted to this, he denied allegations he had set up the school to create a ‘pipeline of young women’ to sleep with.

A co-star of Franco’s on The Disaster Artist, Charlyne Yi, in 2021 called her former co-star ‘predatory’ and accused Rogen of ‘enabling him.’

Rogen initially came out in support of Franco, saying he would continue to work with him, before later saying following Yi’s comments that he ‘despises abuse and harassment’ and he had no plans to work with him in the future.
Franco eventually came out with a controversial interview on the Jess Cagle Podcast and confirmed they weren’t working together.
He said: “Of course, it was hurtful, you know, in context. But I get it - he had to answer for me. Because I was silent, he had to answer for me. And I don't want that.”

Later, when interviewed by Variety for his return film project, Franco said that their friendship was ‘over.’

When asked about this quote in an Esquire interview Rogen brushed it off, saying that Franco's comments weren't ‘on his radar.’
With all this history it would be a major shock if the pair reunited for a Pineapple Express sequel.
In addition, these quotes from Evan Goldberg, who helped write the film and is a frequent Rogen collaborator, cast doubt on the possibility this will happen.
In an exclusive interview with LADbible, when asked about possible sequels, he said: “We have a strict rule of no sequel to Superbad or Pineapple Express. Yeah, that's not happening.”
