It seems to be a rare thing for a child actor to make it into the big time and despite his iconic role in The Shining, Danny Lloyd is no exception.
Although we have seen the likes of Ryan Gosling and Natalie Portman enjoy hugely successful careers after making their breakthroughs at a young age, it's not always the case.
Even when we see reboots of beloved series, such as Malcolm in the Middle, we don't always get the original cast if they've decided to take a step away from acting.
Macaulay Culkin was perhaps the obvious example before he made his return to Hollywood but we've also got the likes of Mara Wilson from Matilda and Daniel Tay from Elf who simply aren't seen in film or TV anymore.

Another to add to that list is Danny Lloyd, who played Daniel Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror classic The Shining. Despite Danny and his tricycle being a huge part of such a beloved horror film, the American actor gave up on his Hollywood dream when he was just a teenager.
Like many others in the business, he wanted 'to go back to being a regular kid'.

He told The Sun: "I definitely tried but I’m happy the way things went. A Hollywood life probably wouldn’t have been for me anyway."
According to his IMDB page, the only movie not related to The Shining that Lloyd would appear in was Will: The Autobiography of G. Gordon Liddy, when he played a young Gordon Liddy.
He was asked back for the 2019 release Doctor Sleep but didn't reprise his role as Daniel, with that role instead going to Ewan McGregor. He instead played a spectator, while he also played himself in Filmworker.
Unsurprisingly, Lloyd looks very different more than 40 years on from the film, as you would expect any adult to look different from their six-year-old self.

Considering the film grossed over $47million (£37million) at the box office, Lloyd may still well be doing pretty well on royalties, even if he was only six when he made his acting debut in the film.
In fact, the kid who got eaten in Jaws still makes a decent whack, although some of that is from Cameo, where stars can also make a pretty penny from fans of the films they starred in.
The money that Lloyd made from the film helped pay for his college tuition and he was most recently believed to be living just outside Kentucky with his wife Jessi Bowers and their kids, while he now makes his living by teaching high school biology.
He's certainly unrecognisable so even the biggest horror fans in his class might not clock that their teacher was the same man who starred alongside Jack Nicholson, but then it's probably a cool fact to win the students over.
