Joshua Nair is a journalist at LADbible. Born in Malaysia and raised in Dubai, he has always been interested in writing about a range of subjects, from sports to trending pop culture news. After graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a BA in Media, Journalism and Publishing, he got a job freelance writing for SPORTbible while working in marketing before landing a full-time role at LADbible. Unfortunately, he's unhealthily obsessed with Manchester United, which takes its toll on his mental and physical health. Daily.

One of the most recognisable voices in pop culture has explained why you probably haven't seen his face before.

Millions of people in the world would classify themselves as 'gamers', spending hours grinding on games such as FC and Call of Duty, while others are more casual, sticking to Animal Crossing or mobile games like Clash of Clans.

But there are some trends and characters that are known by mainstream media from the video game world - think Fortnite dances or Pikachu from Pokemon.

Another one is the powerful voice of a man, which is only heard for a few seconds when you're starting up certain games.

Old school FIFA and Madden NFL fans will recognise the voice within one syllable - it's the bloke that dramatically says 'EA Sports, it's in the game'.

The motto highlights the company's goal of emulating sports as realistically as possible in video games - though the latest iterations of games from EA haven't featured the iconic voice.

Probably because we all skip past the intro, but the voice is iconic regardless.

The man behind the iconic line is Andrew Anthony, and this might be the first time you'll have seen his face.

Speaking to Bleacher Report Gaming on TikTok, he explained: "For like the first 20 years of doing this, I was not allowed to tell people I was the EA Sports guy, cause they would check in with their consumers, get a bunch of gamers in the room and say, 'what's the EA Sports guy (look like)?' And they're like, 'oh, 5'11", little white guy from Canada'."

According to Anthony, the company then decided to keep him on as a 'disembodied voice', but he would go viral years later after a video of him doing the EA Sports intro in real life with a fan did the rounds on social media - which Anthony said led the guy to be able pay for his first year of college back in Ireland.

"That was the first time I ever did that," Anthony said.

According to The Sun, he recorded the iconic line for free, adding: "I recorded it and thought I would never, ever hear anything about it again.

"And now it's this mega-brand. Pretty cool."

People took to the comments to show their appreciation for the voice actor, as one said: "Most legendary voice of a whole generation."

Another wrote: "Best voice in sports video games gaming history," while a different user recalled seeing the viral video, saying: "I remember that video when it first came out. I was hyped especially because it was real and not auto tuned or anything."

We're just glad that he's now getting the credit he deserves.
