Margot Robbie is Hollywood's highest-paid actress thanks to Barbie pay check

Margot Robbie is Hollywood's highest-paid actress thanks to Barbie pay check

Greta Gerwig's third feature is one of the most anticipated movies of the year

Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie has just debuted a second, hilarious trailer, seeing Margot Robbie in the coveted and handsomely paid role of the doll created by Mattel, with flick now making her the highest-paid actress in Hollywood.

Featuring Ryan Gosling as Ken, the star-studded comedy boasts a big cast of multiple versions of Barbie and several male co-protagonists living in Barbie Land. Things take an unexpected turn when Robbie's Barbie is expelled from this dreamy realm for failing expectations and decides to relocate to the human world, joined by her loyal boyfriend Ken.

Rollerblades in hand, the pair try to find their happiness there, one day at a time.

And it seems that the Australian star bagged a jaw-dropping paycheck to play the protagonist in the flick.

According to Variety, the Harley Quinn star received a whopping $12.5million (£10.5million) pay cheque to star as the titular character in Gerwig's film. Reportedly, Gosling bagged the same figure.

This is Robbie's highest-paid role to date, following a $9-10 million (£7.5-8.3 million) paycheck she was offered for returning as the DC villainess in the spin-off film Birds of Prey, directed by Cathy Yan.

Filming on the Barbie movie wrapped last July, with Robbie's co-star, You's Hari Nef, taking to Instagram to share a candid shot of the cast celebrating the end of production.

"It's a wrap for the Doll! see you in Barbieland," she wrote in the caption.

Earlier today (April 4), Warner Bros also released character posters for the huge ensemble, giving fans more insights into who's playing who.

While Robbie and Gosling's roles were established early on, the posters introduced the other key players, including Will Ferrell, who is set to portray the CEO of a toy company.

The protagonist couple are surrounded by other Barbies and Kens, all having distinctive traits and personalities. These include Dua Lipa in her acting debut as mermaid Barbie, Sex Education's Emma Mackey as physicist Barbie, Issa Rae as president Barbie and Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan as diplomat Barbie.

Meanwhile, Gosling is joined by Marvel's Simu Liu as a rival Ken and Scott Pilgrim's Michael Cera as Ken's best friend Allan.

The story is to be narrated Helen Mirren.

The film is co-penned by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, marking their latest collaboration as writing partners after Frances Ha and Mistress America.

Barbie is set to hit cinemas on July 21.
