Director James Cameron has announced that Avatar 4 is in the works despite the sequel not being released yet.

Let’s walk before we run, Cameron.

Comicbook reported that while the Titanic director didn’t grace fans with his presence at the highly-awaited D23 expo, Cameron did disclose that the fourth film to the science fiction franchise has already begun production in a pre-recorded video.

Cameron also shared footage of the sequel at the Disney fan event, which contained scenes of a showdown between Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), fighting about whether to leave their home because of all the imposing threats.

However, Neytiri once again reminds the Na'vi that this is their ‘home’.

Another scene also featured a confrontation between the Na'vi, as one group member was caught hanging out with an outsider.

Fans were also shown sequences of the Na'vi swimming on Pandora.

Following the sneak peek, journalist Sean Keane marvelled over the film’s special effects: "The Avatar: The Way of Water scenes shown to the D23 crowd suggest it’ll be the most visually stunning cinematic experience of all time. I just hope I care about the story!"

Aussie actor Sam Worthington appeared at the event to tease that the highly anticipated sequel will explore family and protecting family, as per a report by the Daily Mail.

He said: "We've all gone through Covid-19 and realised that love and being with family is paramount to what life is and it's worth fighting for. We put that in the movie."

While Sigourney Weaver appeared in the first flick as Dr Grace Augustine, a scientist who goes to lengths to conserve the Na'vi’s habitat, it’s been revealed that the veteran actor will play an entirely different role this time around.

The 72-year-old will play Kiri, Jake and Neytiri's adoptive teenage daughter.

"I’m one of the Sully kids… Only Jim is crazy enough to have written this character for me,’ she teased, according to GamesRadar.

As well as Worthington, Saldana, and Weaver, a star-studded cast have signed on to continue the Avatar. tale.

Big names include Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Michelle Yeoh, CJ Jones, and Vin Diesel.

While we’re not sure when the franchise’s third and fourth films will be released, Avatar: The Way of Water is set to hit theatres December 16, 2022.

And hoo boy, we can’t wait for this cinematic extravaganza.

With a wait that long and a cast that good, we've got high hopes for this one.
