Jared Leto Method Acted So Hard On The Morbius Set That Production Was Delayed

Jared Leto's intense method acting has attracted headlines again, this time for his latest film Morbius.

The movie's director, Daniel Espinosa, said the 50-year-old actor was highly dedicated to accurately portraying the physical limitations of his character, Dr Michael Morbius.

He would use crutches even when the cameras weren’t rolling, which delayed the production schedule because it would take him 45 minutes to go to the bathroom.

The crew eventually decided to transport the actor in a wheelchair to speed up the lengthy bathroom trips.

Espinoa told Uproxx: “I think that what Jared thinks, what Jared believes, is that somehow the pain of those movements, even when he was playing normal Michael Morbius, he needed, because he’s been having this pain his whole life.

“Even though he's alive and strong, it has to be a difference. Hey, man, it’s people’s processes.”

Despite the actor holding up production, Espinoa said he respected the actor’s choice to remain in character.

“All of the actors believe in processes. And you, as director, you support whatever makes it as good as you can be,” he said.

However, this isn’t the first time Leto has gone to extreme measures for his craft.

While playing the infamous Clown Prince of Crime in Suicide Squad, cast members confirmed the actor sent them disturbing gifts behind the scenes.

Margot Robbie, who played his love interest Harley Quinn admitted the actor sent her a live black rat.

Leto confirmed to CinemaCon that he also sent used condoms, anal beans, Playboy magazines and a dead pig to the rest of the cast as well.

"I did a lot of things to create a dynamic to create an element of surprise, a spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there," he said.

"The Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries."

Suicide Squad star Will Smith also told EOnline that the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman went ‘full joker’ to get in the mindset of his character.

"He really set the tone. He wasn't playing with it," he said. "He was dead serious as an actor. He was going in and he was 100 percent going into this character."
