Joe Rogan left 'scared' after watching video of Adolf Hitler 'speaking English'

The podcast host reckons it was 'much scarier' than hearing the dictator speak in his native tongue

The technology we have at our fingertips these days can be both a blessing and a curse - as Joe Rogan found out while he was on air.

Although the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) are extraordinary, the endless possibilities it offers are also a tad frightening too.

During an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience in January last year, Rogan admitted even he was unnerved by some of the unique uses for AI.

The UFC commentator, 57, sat down with former journalist and author Will Storr to discuss a multitude of topics, including the rise and fall of Adolf Hitler.

At one point, the pair began discussing footage of the German dictator - who orchestrated the mass extermination of six million Jews in Europe - 'spitting and shouting and ranting' during one of his frantic speeches.

For reference, why don't you have a listen to the 'only known' recording of Hitler's voice here:

Rogan asked his British guest whether he had seen how the clips have been 'translated into English with AI' and eerily replicated Hitler's voice.

Rogen said of the AI translation: "It's fascinating. One of the things that they can do now, even with podcasts - so this podcast, when Spotify runs its AI through it, they'll be able to translate you into perfect Spanish in your voice.

"They have this technology now, I know they can do it in German, Spanish and I think French. And of course English, back and forth."

Spotify announced this 'groundbreaking feature powered by AI' in 2023, explaining it uses 'OpenAI’s voice generation technology to match the original speaker’s style'.

It hoped to offer a more 'authentic listening experience' for people tuning into podcasts, rather than relying upon the traditional dubbing method.

So, after informing Storr of this interesting new feature, Rogan brought up a clip of one of Hitler's speeches that had been translated into English.

But the look on his face suggested he wished he hadn't, as the podcast host admitted although it was very interesting, it could easily make people feel very uncomfortable.

"That sounds so much scarier," he told Storr while watching the footage. "That f**king accent, boy! There's something about German, you hear them yelling you're like...instinctively [panicked]. I think it's burned into us."

The AI-altered video seemed to leave quite the impression upon Rogan, as he brought it up again the following month while inviting comedian Eleanor Kerrigan on The Joe Rogan Experience.

The majority of Rogan's fans were left just as shocked by the clips, although some native Germans said AI hadn't exactly perfected Hitler's voice.

One person wrote: "The English version was a little too high and squeaky. Still pretty chilling."

Another said: "Crazy how one man’s words can affect an entire world."

While a third added: "People thought we would have flying cars. Instead we have AI Hitler."

And a fourth chimed in: "Definitely not scarier than him screaming in German."
