George R. R. Martin Can’t Understand Why People Ended Up Hating Game Of Thrones So Much

The world-famous author also chatted about his next show House of the Dragon.

George R.R. Martin is probably one of the best known writers in the world.

His iconic work, Game of Thrones, has enthralled book readers for decades and then television audiences.

That is, until the final season. Season seven of the Game of Thrones TV show infuriated fans everywhere, copping criticism for its sped-up plot and out-of-character ending.

But, if you're here thinking Martin will join you in that pity party, then you are very wrong.

"I don’t understand how people can come to hate so much something that they once loved," Martin said in a sit-down interview with the Independent.

"If you don’t like a show, don’t watch it. How has everything become so toxic?"

So if you have a toxic attitude about how Game of Thrones ended, it is time to leave it behind.

It's time to move on and you'll have a new series to analyse and obsess over soon enough with Martin's House of the Dragon.

The TV series has been adapted from Martin's prequel book, Fire & Blood, and is based on the history of the ancient Targaryen family.

Set 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones, we get a whole new story.

And Martin has already seen some rough cuts of episodes.

He told the Independent that seeing the latest Targaryen story took him back to the first time he was on set for Game of Thrones season one.

The first scene Martin ever saw filmed was when Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) talks to Ned Stark (Sean Bean) while balancing on one foot at the top of a flight of stairs.

"It was magical," he told the Independent.

"It was like: here are my characters, they’ve come to life. They’re saying the things they said. The scene is pretty much as I imagined it when I wrote it. There’s nothing like that."

He didn't give any new hints as to when readers will get their hands on the next book.

George R.R. Martin has provided fans with an update about the next instalment in the Game of Thrones series in May.

The author took to his blog to reveal The Winds of Winter is shaping up to be epic.

"THE WINDS OF WINTER is going to be a big book," he said. "The way it is going, it could be bigger than A STORM OF SWORDS or A DANCE WITH DRAGONS, the longest books in the series to date.

“I do usually cut and trim once I finish, but I need to finish first.”
